Hmmm....ok, let's try to start over with the software you have by doing the following:
Follow the steps below to scrub the software, and then reinstall it.
1. Open %temp%, and delete all files in this folder. There may be some files which may still be in use, and you can choose skip for those files.
2. Download the full feature software and drivers using the following link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-85745-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
3. Double click on the downloaded file to extract the files
4. When the software install window opens to begin installation, press Cancel or Exit to close the installer
5. Type %temp% in the run field or search for programs and files.
6. Look for folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
7. Right click on the 7z folder, and choose copy
8. Close the %temp% window, and then right click in the middle of your desktop, and chose paste
9. Open the 7z folder
10. Open folder Util
11. Open folder CCC
12. Run the Uninstall_L4, and then follow the on screen instructions to remove all the software.
13. When the software has been removed restart your computer
14. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
15. Open the 7z folder on the desktop, and run the setup.exe file to reinstall the printer.
Let me know what happens.

To fix this error, do what Gordon_H suggests except write down the name of the 7z folder when you get the error. Then follow Gordon_H directions up until it is time to reinstall the software. Rename the 7z folder on your desktop to the name of the 7z folder you wrote down when you got the error. Copy that folder into the %temp% directory and then run the setup.

Ok. I tried the latest solution. renaming the file on the desktop and copy back to the temp file. restarted the installation and DID NOT receive the error notice and the installation started and went through all the steps, but stalled at the end and got a FATAL ERROR notice at the configuration step. My disposition went from happy to depressed. I said to myself, "When will this end?"
Got HP's error solution thing and downloaded a .bat file asking me to go thourgh a series of steps that I went through already. So, what the heck. I tried to print a document and LO AND BEHOLD the document printed.
Bottom line - the printer is installed.
My sincere thanks to all who gave their time to help me with my problem. My sincere curses to HP for making me go through this proceedure.

so basically the HP install keeps looking for a folder that doesnt exist. what the people above have said worked for me and as i was typing this my first test page came out flawlessly on my hp printer.
i installed my printer driver and got the error -
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS7A56\setup\hpzpnp40.exe Not Found Blah Blah Blah
i immediately went into the sub folder
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\
and found out immideatly there were 2 similar folders to the 7zxxxxx format. i opened the one named 7zS32B3 and saw there was a folder named "setup" (C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS32B3\setup\)
i opened it and found the hpzpnp40.exe file !!!!!! hoorayyyy i backed up into the temp folder and made a copy of the folder named 7zS32B3 that had the hpzpnp40.exe file within it ! and renamed it to the same name that the HP Setup was looking for "C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS7A56\setup\hpzpnp40.exe" so now i had a folder under the temp directory named 7zS7A56 i went into that folder and ran the file named setup.exe followed the setup and your done. ! bingo

Ok guys, I also have the problem with this driver.
I understand everything that have been said in this post, But I still couldn't solve the problem. Here's why, I've unninstalled the old driver (it started to cause problem) but the first time, the installation have been made from the CD. Sadly, this CD doesn't exist anymore.
So I decided to get the driver from the net (well, I would have done it either way) but I encountered this "hpzpnp40.exe" error but the path isn't from another folder in the temp...it's from E:/setup/../setup...the DVD drive...
I wanted to change the drive letter of one of my HDD, but I cannot get the complete path.
So, my question is :
- How can I reset the path of the installation for this driver so it look in the C: %temp%?
or
- If you give me the path from the CD, can I change the drive letter of one of my HDD and "emulate" it?
Thanks for the quick answer
Elok
