OfficeJet 7510
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Just set up a new OfficeJet 7510 and the printer refuses to print roughly 15mm at the top and bottom of A4. It cuts off text top/bottom, which is very frustrating. The printer appears to be able to print 3mm margins all round an A4 page. Side margins are fine on my prints, but not top and bottom.

I CANNOT find a way to fix this. There is talk about having to select a "minimise margins" box to get access to 3mm top and bottom margins - but I cannot find this option on any of the MacOS print dialog boxes/drivers.

Can anyone help please?

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!

Adjusting the print settings may resolve the issue, let's try these steps:

1.) Open the document that you want to print, then click File, and then click Print.

2.) Click the unnamed print options menu at the center of the dialog and select Layout. Click border and select None.

3.) Click the unnamed print options menu at the center of the dialog and select Paper Handling.

4.) Check the box "Scale to fit paper size". Click Destination Paper Size and select A4 Borderless.

5.) Click Print.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi

Thanks very much for your suggestion. Sort of fixed one problem but introduced another one. I had actually tried that myself days ago.

The A4 page is now printing borderless - so no cut off text. BUT, A4 borderless printing by default sets the paper handling to photo paper (plain is not an option) - so the printter thinks it is photo paper and the printing takes AGES!

I actually WANT border printing mode - but I really just want the printer to print with its 3mm all round border settings. The issue is that it is stuck on 16mm top and bottom border settings and I cannot find a way to change the printer settings. There is apparently a "minimise margins" command somewhere.... but it is just not accessible.

This is so silly of HP - just not user friendly at all. I am very close to sending the printer back and buying an Epson again.

Thanks.

You are welcome! Minimize Margins option is only available for Windows operating systems. For Mac OS X we can set the margins while creating a custom paper size, you may refer to this document. Try creating a custom paper size with the desired margins and try to print. If issue persists, then it could be an issue with the printer driver installed on your Mac. We could try removing the existing printer driver and then adding a compatible printer driver. Here is how to do it:

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Keep me posted!

I have already tried all of that. The printer is just not printing 16mm in the top/bottom margins. Even the HP tech docs say the top margin default should be 3mm. But on this printer it is not. The fact that it seems to be so difficult to fix this suggests you are not really interested in Mac customers.

I have had enough - it is a waste of time. I am returning the printer and going to buy another Epson.

That's unfortunate, I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
