Thanks for the information.

Please open the Temp folder and delete its entire content, no fears, these are all temporary files that should be cleaned every once in a while.

Once done, download and run below installation file, if any window is shown select Install Printer Software, if no dialog appears once extracting open the Temp folder and open the 7z folder, you will only see one now, then click on Install Printer Software:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL32629/Im-80811-7/HP_M1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution-v2018...

Select the M1217fnw model and select a Wireless connection, then select the option of a printer already connected to the network and follow the steps on screen, then check for any difference.

Please let me know how it goes,

Shlomi

Hi ShlomiL, I didn't know you were there!

I have been on "Page 2" all day, occasionally "F5 ing it and only noticed there was a page 3 as 8:00pm!

OK, I've deleted all tah could be found in %temp% and downloaded the software.

The HP window which opens gives me the option of  1130 MFP series or 1210 MFP series.

Mine is 1217, ...am I being pedantic?

Also, if that is OK, do I have to have the printer switched on, and connected via USB to continue?

HP Recommended

The 1217 is part of the 1210 series

Thanks Repairatrooper,

Do I need the Printer "on" and/or connected via USB before commencing?

Ah! I forgot that the installation videos guide you through that!

I've reached the point where it says "To install a Wireless product refer to the Windows wireless installation section in the wireless user guide addendum."

That tells me to insert a software CD which I don't have nor do I have anywhere to insert it!

...carry on regardless with the install software???

Can't proceed further as the software from this point omits any options for wireless installation!

Have I entered the cul-de-sac of stupid? 🤔

I have now established a WiFi connection, ...I think.

I have not been requested to remove the USB connection but lacking any further help this evening, I must now remove the USB and see if the printer will print over the network.

That went well.

I have finally achieved wireless printing.

So many questions!

Is this wireless connection an enduring one?

Will it evaporate if I power the printer down to move it to its "forever home"!

Indeed, will it evaporate if I unplug it for a few weeks when going on holiday?

I generally turn off the PC at Night as a retired member of the fire services, I'm a bit paranoid about such things, I just don't feel comfortable with unnecessary stuff being left "on" whilst sleeping.

Something which technology is trying to bully me into! 🙂

On this occasion, I will leave the printer "powered on"  since it will go into standby after 15 minutes and hopefully we will be able to play nicely tomorrow and get to know each other!

General questions:-

Can I print from any of my devices which are connected to the network, be they IOS, Windows 10 or Linux?

I notice there is a broadcast SSID for the printer, currently "Open" how do I set a password for it and will I need to input the password each time I want to print?

I thought I had set a password for the SSID via the web interface but it seems it is just to access the Web Interface.

My phone is a Huawei P30 Pro and came with HP Print service Plug in.

Upon opening it, I am requested to download another piece of software "HP Smart", ...do I really need that?

Can't I print from my phone without it?

I'm not comfortable with my stuff passing through external clouds when I'm sat right in the building where the router and printer are situated!

I'm sure I'll have more questions tomorrow, but that'll do for starters!

...One more before bed!

I presume that the greyed out duplicate printer is my earlier attempt which failed after re-booting the router.

Can I delete it without endangering the current successful install?

I'm really annoyed that my post has been declared "Spam" and hoping it will have been reinstated by morning, there are several questions I was hoping ShlomiL could answer in our single exchange of the day

Yay, it's back, maybe we can have more than a single exchange tomorrow!

...it's 01:10 in the early hrs now and I'm just off to bed.

I have attempted to print from my phone and it was intercepted by that HP Smart print which sends my stuff over the internet which is not good when I'm sat next to the printer!

How can I do that?

I have also tried connecting my phone to the open network SSID generated by the printer but that also fails to print and I am warned there is no internet connection at this SSID.

♫ Morning has broken! ♪ as they say, and the printer is still WiFi connected.

Hope you can answer some of my questions so that I dare unplug the machine and move it to the desired location without loosing WiFi connectivity.

Hello,

....is there anyone there??

Can somebody, anybody please pick up on these questions as I'd like to complete this install and be confident that it is secure?
