HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdn Printer

I have two HP ColorJet Pro MFP 4301 printers, one at home and one at my office, that replaced older HP lasers.  The home one prints from Windows 10 and a macOS 14.4.1 and the office one Windows 10 only.  Both of printers, with print jobs from three different devices, constantly, as in every print job, pop up an error saying "out of paper" before eventually printing.  It has paper, it is loaded correctly, and it doesn't matter what paper source or type.

Can anyone tell me why it keeps throwing this error?  It makes zero sense and it is not limited to a single printer or OS.  On the Windows 10 machines, I also randomly get print jobs that produce the pages all out of order.  I don't know if it is related or not to the aforementioned issue.

Thank you.

I am having the exact same "Out of Paper" issue - when I am directing all prints to Tray #2 and it has plenty of paper.  Both MacOS and Windows show the issue - but note it still prints.

I found this morning through the "web app" within the HP printer that the "Out of Paper" issue refers to Tray 1.  Obviously, Tray 1 is typically out of paper because it's a SPECIAL USE tray.  HP can you get this right? Someone else asked the same question in January.  No one responded to them.

HELLO HP, ARE YOU AROUND TO HELP OR FIX THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT?

Two possible causes based on experience:

1. A print job is being sent that is formatted or requested to print on a certain size or type of paper that does not match the default paper that is loaded in the printer. The printer will then go to the MP and throw an error. Common cause of this is a PF that was created in a geographical location that uses different default paper. A setting in Adobe to "select paper based on PDF size" will hang the printer in this case.

2. Driver issues. We have found with this new series printers that the Smart Universal Printer Driver provides the most reliable print experience

Thanks for the reply.

1.) Around 99% of the print jobs are for letter sized paper and that is what is loaded.

2.) That appears to be the driver being used.

New Smart UPD was released this week. I suggest you upgrade to new version 4.01.
