Asked it to scan. First got this on the HP Photosmart:
No Connection
No computer is connedted. See Printer Help and documentation to troubleshoot the connection.
That sounds familiar.
Then on the computer screen this pops up:
HP Photosmart 7520 (USB)
Select the program to launch this action:
The choices are:
ArcSoft Photo Studio 6 (this is the one I always use for photos)
and
HP scan
When I choose the ArcSoft the HP Twain -Photosmart 7520 series (USB) shows up.
Under that it says: Select a shortcut, adjust settings, and click Scan or create and new shortcut
When I click "done" it does go to ArcSoft.
So I guess that this is the only way it will work. It seems to take a long time but apparently this is my only
The issue of the default for printing is okay now.
If you think there is something else needed, let me know.
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback!
It's always easier to diagnose if patience and communication channels are open 🙂
It might seem probable that the Arcsoft Photo Studio is conflicting with the HP software.
Have you tried HP Scan? Does it work?
If you are good with using Arcsoft, then just leave it as is (don't touch if it ain't broken!)
Thanks again.
Have a nice day!

This is getting crazy. This morning it is not allowing me to do anything unless I go into the printer assistant and click the "scan a document or photo". This time it goes to the "select a shortcut, etc". I then click the choices I want and then it scans and asks me save it. I am able to direct it to the exact location I want the picture to go (my picture library).
I think I am going to have to do the work around like this. At least I am now able.
I will hit the "accept, etc" and sign off. Thanks for all your help.

Hi,
Will like to offer you this alternative Scan solution, It'll be a standalone software package;
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Let us know if that works.
