Bob-

Just checking - in my last posting on Aug. 18, I specified margin details for a few of the duplex jobs I've attempted in various programs. I'm hoping I haven't seen a response because there's some work being done on updating the appropriate drivers - can you confirm if this is the case, or if I've reached a dead-end on finding a solution?

Thanks!

There was a recent update posted on HP's download page that addresses margins issues when printing in duplex mode.  Download the new driver for your Officejet 8500 here.

Is it possible to do manual duplexing (driver prints odd pages first, turn the pages around, put them back in, and print even pages) on an Officejet Pro L7580 in Windows 7 64-bit?  Connected through network (ethernet).

Hmm... I would have thought so, but it does not appear to be an option either with the automatic duplexer set to "installed" or "not installed".  Here is a workaround:  go to the Devices and Printerss folder, right click on the L7580 and select Printer Properties, Ports and find the port the L7580 is using.  Exit from there, then Add a Printer, Add a Local Printer, Existing Port, (select the port used by the L7580), OK, click on Windows Update and then add the driver for the Deskjet 6500, OK.   Once this printer has been installed right click on the Deskjet 6500, Printer Properties, Device Settings and make sure "Allow Manual Duplexing: is set to "Enabled".  You may also set the automatic duplexer to enabled if you have that installed, Apply.  Click the General tab and click on Printing Preferences and then set the printer up for manual duplexing.  From the General tab you may also want to change the printer name to something like "L7580 Manual Duplex".

When you need to print with manual duplexing you can now chose the Deskjet 6500 printer (or whatever name you assigned above).

Hello Bob & geforcefly-If you have Win 7 upgrade installed, place your Win 7 upgrade dvd in your drive and perform a second upgrade on top of your previous installed upgrade. This will eliminate the the upside down printing on the backpage. However, the best wa to eliminate the problem is to do a clean install. The second upgrade will change a few files but most remain as before.

I could not install Bob's patch for some reason although I have been successfully installing patches for more than 14 years. I opened the patch itself and did not see a Setup.exe file  which I usually encounter in other downloads. However,I achived  the objective via another method. Carl.

The issue geforcefly described related to manual duplexing for the Officejet L7580.  That does not appear to be an option for the L7580 driver after installing it on my clean (not an upgrade) windows 7 x64 system.

As for the patch, there are five pages or so of detailed instructions, including step by step screen shots in the PDF file included with the patch.  If there are specific areas that are unclear or misleading I would appreciate the feedback.  (The directions are written for Vista, there may be small differences for Windows 7. )

Hi,

Don't know if this is the right place to ask, but here goes.  We installed Windows 7 32bit  in December, everything worked except for the duplex printing.  It works, but as I've seen posted, the margins are off from top to bottom and if printing an excel workbook, some of the lines go missing.  We are using an HP 7310 all in one printer, printing on 8.5 x 11 paper.  The forms I've been printing before windows 7 did not add any margins or subtract any, they were the same on both front and back.  I know my employer gets very frustrated upgrading to the newer programs when the time it takes to get everything working right really cuts down on productivity.  Our previous OS was XP not Vista.  I am not having any upside down issues except for 1 PDF pamphlet tried to download from a website, but their layout seemed to be screwed up as well.  Any help would be appreciated, I do a lot of double sided printing.  Thanks in Advance,  Sherry

Hi Folks,

I have an 8500 A9099g wireless printer. I use two computers one is an XP and the other is a Vista 64 bit. So far no issues with the XP printing. However I have ONE challenge for this printer I just cannot figure out.

When printing an excel spreadsheet portrait it will print without issues. I change the printing to landscape and regular 8.5 x 11 and it only will print one column and that column is not "landscape" formatted. But I can go into the printer preferences and change it to legal size paper and it will print! What do I need to do to fix this aggravation?

I couldn't find a way to search this thread as it is already 18 pages long.  I have a Photosmart 7350, installed the Deskjet 5550 driver, disabled manual duplexing, enabled duplex printing per your instructions on page 1.  Yet, it still won't duplex automatically.

What am I missing?  (And yes, i did buy an add-on duplexer for it years ago.)

This is off topic for this thread.  I suggest posting it as a new thread with a title something like "Officejet 8500 a909g Problems Printing Excel in Landscape with Vista x64".  Be sure to specify details such as which version of Excel you are using, what driver version you have and what the print preview results look like.

What are the driver settings for paper type?  Duplex printing is not compatible with photo paper or some other types of media.  Try setting the printer driver to "plain paper" rather than "automatic".  If this does not resolve the issue please indicate what operating system you are using and any error messages or other information that might help.
