Make sure that your router has 802.11g mode enabled.  Also, try restarting the router by pulling its power plug momentarily.

The method I used was:

Go through the setup and set it up over a wireless ad-hoc network (i forget what the exact wording was). This will fail. However it will still give the printer an IP address it will be broadcasting a wireless network to connect to with your laptop. Connect to that network. Now print the network configuration page on the printer to get the printers IP address and navigate to that IP using your web browser while connected to the ad hoc network. The ad hoc network will be called (if memory serves) hp setup ###### (where ###### is some random number, probably the ethernet address of the printer). Now in the advanced settings there will be a button that says to enable Wireless compatibility mode and also have an area to input your wireless connection settings for your router. I'm sorry I cannot be more detailed but the printer is 40 miles away right now.

WPA security is otherwise known as your wireless password.  Do you know what it is?  What router do you have?

So I managed to get it connected although I have no idea what I did to change anything. The only problem I am having now is finding the printer code do register it
