HP has too many printers. Period. On my HP app it says my printer is the officejet 5200. On my printer it says my printer is the Officejet 5258. I tried to figure out what ink I needed for my printer by googling it. I look on HP site as well and couldn't find my printer model anywhere. Finally found something that said I needed the 65 cartridge. Went to target and they were out. Called office depot and asked if they had ink for an HP 5200 officejet/5258 officejet. They said yes, absolutely. I asked if it was in stock. They said yes, absoutly. I got there and immediately asked for help. I told them I needed ink for an HP 5200/5258 officejet. They say that printer isnt even in their system. We google the printer together and find the same 65 ink cartidge as the answer. I pick it up and it does not list my printer on the side of the packaging as a compatible printer. The office depot employee ensures me that it will work for my printer regardless. I ask him if he is sure. He says yes absolutely. I go home and put it in my pritner. Does not work. Not compatible. Wasted 35 bucks on ink I can't use and I've already opened it and put it in my printer so I can no longer return the ink to office depot. I would love a refund or to send the cartridges in for an exchange because I am a college student low on funds and can't particularly afford to throw around 35 bucks here and there just because it was nearly impossible for me to figure out what cartridge I needed. If netiher of those things are possible since I purchased through office depot, I would love to at least be able to send them somewhere so that they can be put to use and not wasted becasue throwing them away would be like throwing 35 bucks in the garbage. Does anyone need 65 cartridges? Not sure what to do at this point.

Still haven't received an e-mail from support. Perhaps its because it is the weekend. Don't really care either way. I am impatient. Decided to anazlye the cartridge I bought yesterday against the cartridge I had that just ran out of ink. No visible differences whatsoever. Exact same cartridge--only difference was that one was full of ink and one was empty. Except the full one is expired. Turns out Target sold me expired. printer. ink. So the problem isn't with you, HP. Although it is absolutely dumb how many different variations of the exact same product you offer. The real problem is with target. I will take the cartridges back tomorrow and insist a refund since they sold me expired product.

I am sorry this happened to you.

Sales people say things.  Perhaps if you talk to the manager at the store, he will be willing to refund the purchase since it was apparently made on bad information.  ??

If you are in the USA, the following applies to your printer:

There are two models in this series, both use the same ink:

Example- M2U84A

Print cartridges

Number of print cartridges
2 (1 black, 1 Tri-color [cyan, magenta, yellow])
Replacement cartridges
E5Z02A HP 63 Black Instant Ink Cartridge (~1000+ pages); E5Z01A HP 63 Tri-color Instant Ink Cartridge (~700+ pages);Actual yields vary based on images printed and other factors. http://www.hp.go/pageyield

Per your advice I went to target to buy the 63 cartridges. Just got home to put them in my printer as I am a graphic design student and must complete a project before money and printing is necessary. When I put the cartridges in my printer they said that they were not compatible because a newer version was [edit] AVAILABLE. I HAVE SPENT, now $100 dollars on ink that I can’t. Use. I am seething. Thank you for taking the time to explain the situation and the solution to return the outdated ink.

IF you are interested, know that you can purchase fresh ink from HP.  Shipment is free.  As long as you live in an area where mail is delivered by air and truck, delivery is very fast (as soon as "next day").
