Hi Doc,
Your explanation didn't quite do the trick, but you have pointed me in the right direction.
The problem: For some reason, when using Microsoft Office WORD 2007 and wanting to print a document the default 'number of copies' to print was stuck on 4 copies (which I could change to 1, and then it would print 1 .. but if I didn't do this it would always print 4 copies of the document). I tried to find a way within WORD to make it default back to 1, but could find no way of doing this. I could change the number to 1 in several places, but next time I wanted to print a document it was back to 4 copies.
I followed your instructions (but didn't remove the printer cable) and went to START, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes. Did a right-click on HP Deskjet F300 Series (wouldn't have thought of doing that). There were 9 options available to click on in the drop-down box: Open, Printing Preferences, Pause Printing, Sharing, Use Printer Online, Create Shortcut, Delete, Rename and Properties. There was not an option to 'Remove Device'.
So I clicked on Properties, Printing Preferences, Advanced, Paper/Output .. which was saying Copy Count = 4 copies. I changed the 4 to 1. It was then saying Copy Count = 1 copy. I then clicked Apply, then OK.
And now whenever I go to print a document the default is back to 1 copy. So thank you for pointing me to Printer and Faxes in Control Panel; and the right-click on the printer. This problem has been bugging me for several weeks! Problem solved.

Hey @HughWal,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having some issues with getting multiple copies when printing from your Windows XP PC to your Deskjet F380 Printer. I can help you with that.
To clear your print queue:
- If the printer is connected through a USB cable to your PC, remove it.
- Click on Start, Control Panel, and Printers.
- Right-click on any icons of your printer listed.
- Click on Remove Device.
- Repeat for any other icons of your printer listed.
- If you removed the USB cable, connect it. If not, click on Start, Programs, HP, Deskjet F300 Series, and HP Setup (or an option with a similar name).
Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to print, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.
I work on behalf of HP
Please click “Accept as Solution ” below the post that solves your issue to help others find the solution.

Doc,
Thinking about what you had said, is the option 'Remove Device' the same as 'Delete'? Which is an option I did have, so maybe I should have clicked on Delete in order to continue with the instructions you gave me.
And I am wondering if I could have achieved the same result had I gone straight to the option 'Printer Preferences' rather than 'Properties'; then Printer Preferences. Changed the Paper/Output Copy Count to 1; then clicked on Apply (the important bit) and then OK.
Anyway, as I said, it is working OK now.
