Hello All,

My printer is HP desk jet 2776.

While printing A4 documents or copy (xerox) the contents of A4 sheet, few lines of contents are missing at the end of A4 after printing.

Verified everything with HP service center and looks all settings good.

Is this the normal behavior on deskjet 2776 model ?

Kindly help me on this issue and confirm on the same.

Possibly related - the bottom margin is restricted to no less than 1/2 inch.

No, that does not explain why the top few lines are missing.

Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

Where else you look depends on the type of document (Word / PDF),

and the software / application you are using to print.

Plus - importantly...

Whether the problem is "new" or forever / always

Whether you have installed the Full Feature Software / Full Driver print software.

For example - a simpler check - Use "Fit" as opposed to Actual Size when printing PDF

Example - Adobe Reader DC - Main Menu

Manage Print Output with Print Preview_PDF_1HManage Print Output with Print Preview_PDF_1H

The full driver provides the foundation on which other programs and printing software depend.

Printer Software - Preparation

If you have not done so,

In addition to the HP Smart application,

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software for the printer.

HP Smart and other print software / applications benefit from having the full driver installed.

Printer Software Check

Notes

If the full driver printer software is installed, you will see the printer listed in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features.

The installation of the printer software adds two shortcut icons to the Desktop.

The Printer Assistant is named for the printer and provides access to Print , Scan , and Tools

HP Scan is named for itself and provides a direct call to the HP Scan software.

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • When asked, Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. Full Administrator Rights are required to complete the HP Software installation.
  2. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).
  3. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.
  4. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.
  5. Disconnect from Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection while installing printer software.
  6. Full driver includes print and scan functions supported by your printer and provides the printer features on which other applications / software might depend.

If you have not done so,

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

HINT:  Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software

NOTE:  Adobe Reader DC software can be installed even if you do not normally open / view / print PDF files directly from the Adobe Reader DC software.

Hi Dragon-Fur,
Thank you so much for your detailed information.

While placing the A4 document for Xerox, I am facing the issue.

Correct me if I am wrong.  In HP deskjet 2776 model, The headers are  on the right side. so while placing A4 sheet, top will be on header side and bottom will be facing near A4 symbol.
So while taking Xerox, half inch of the content is not getting printed, Even HP service center suspects that it might be a manufacturing defect for that particular model 2776 and they are not sure. But I am totally confused.

Kindly help me to get more clarifications on that.

Thanks again for your help.

?? Are you using the word "Xerox" to mean Copy??

User Guide

Copy - basic button pushing - no options - Page 64

Does that mean the Copy area encompasses the A4 document?

Your experience says it does not do so - lines missing.

The printer can "Scan" as described in the user manual - Page 65

If you have not done so, (please do) install the printer software.

The instructions for document placement (in the user manual):

Load the original print side down on the front-right corner of the scanner glass.

HP Scan (part of the printer software) supports changing the the Scan Area (page size).

Similar control is possible using the HP Smart Windows application (for Scan Documents).

Example - HP Scan - Main Menu

9025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_59025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_5

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan Documents - Scan menu / presets

HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Document_Screen_6HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Document_Screen_6

HP Smart > Scan Documents (or photos) also includes a number of Editing features to edit / crop / manage the scan output.

That HP service would claim a defect for an entire printer model group is striking.

Not saying they didn't say it - but it sounds like an odd assertion.

The printer is less capable than other more sophisticated (and more expensive) models.

Not sure that being limited falls into being defective - the wording might simply be a language / translation weirdness.

Just pop in a simple quick check. Make sure that the paper size set for the tray on your printer is A4. Most HP printers will happily copy A4 to letter without an error but will result in lost content and often will not trigger a paper size warning.

Hi Dragon,

Yes you are right. Xerox refers Copy.

To be more specific, Placing the document on scanner glass and then click on copy, output would be that, at the end of  A4 sheet content (approx.0.5 inch) will be missing.

I am using HP smart and verified all settings as per your suggestions, everything looks normal.

Also HP Service center engineers requested more time to perform R&D for the 2776 model on this highlighted issue.

I have purchased the product recently and wanted to make sure device is healthy without any issues.
