As Stress28 replied, your "fix" did not work.

As I am out of warranty, I will not even attempt to contact HP, as they will not give me the time of day.

I have resorted to scheduling the machine to turn off at 4am and then to turn on at 5am. Perhaps this will overcome the bug.

Thank you for your input, though.

Posting a solution online would be welcomed.  This problem is happening to more than one person.

Recently my printer is showing this on the screen as well as blank white screen:

I (and others) would like a resolution to this problem.

Any updates? having the same issue.

A fix described earlier on this message board did not correct the situation for me.

None of the posted "fixes" have worked. I have also noted that the frequency of these white screen lock ups are becoming MORE frequent. Where as it used to happen once every 1-2 days, it is now happening SEVERAL TIMES A DAY! This is either a serious flaw in the firmware / drivers or a major flaw in the hardware itself. Im currently off of warranty (Ive had this printer for a little over a year and a half) so Im probably at the back of the line for support but this needs to be addressed.  Im at my wits end. I stopped using HP printers a few years back when they updated a previous printer to not work without official HP ink, and proceeded to not recognize the HP XL versions of their own ink and basically bricked my printer.

If my only solution is to buy a new printer, I can safely say HP will NOT even be a thought.

You have to contact HP customer service directly for help doing a factory reset of your printer.  That is the only thing that worked for me to get rid of the white screen issue.

There is another thread where someone reports that a factory reset has fixed this problem for them. I tried this yesterday, using these instructions from page 131 of the HP 6978 user manual, and I haven't (yet) seen the white screen since. After the factory reset, I did need to re-establish the printer's wifi and HP Connected/Instant Ink connections.

I will add that I used the procedure described in this video to reset the printer, and selected “partial reset” and the problem seems to be fixed for me.  Several days now with no white screens and errors, and the printer is back to normal.  The “partial reset” did not change my WiFi or Instant Ink settings for me.

I did the full factory restore, and the fix seems to be holding some 30 hours into it.

I have the same problem ans I cannot update the Firmware, because I use HP Instant INK and the feature is lock out... I feel some recent update have messed up the auto power saver feature and get the White screen.
