Hi @56elaine,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it must be when your HP printer’s yellow ink isn’t printing, especially when the tank is full and you’ve already run all available diagnostics. Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this issue, especially since you're also unable to access the printer menu manually.

Step-by-Step: Fix Yellow Ink Not Printing (Even with a Full Tank)

This issue is often caused by air bubbles in the ink line, clogged printheads, or priming issues:

1. Check Ink Levels and Use Genuine HP Ink

Even if the tank is full, ensure:

  • You’re using genuine HP ink (non-HP ink may not flow properly).
  • The yellow ink tank is not overfilled, which can cause pressure issues.

2. Run Printhead Cleaning (via HP Smart App)

Since you can’t access the printer menu manually, use the HP Smart app:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools.
  4. Choose Clean Printheads.
  5. Print a test page and check if yellow is printing.
  6. If not, repeat the cleaning up to 2 more times.

3. Manually Prime the Ink System (If Air Is Trapped)

If yellow still doesn’t print, the ink line may have air bubbles. HP Smart Tank printers are designed to self-prime, but you can try this:

  • Power off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try printing again.

If the issue persists, you may need to manually prime the ink system or replace the printhead.

I hope this helps.
