Documents recently starting being printed with a dirty background. It looks like a roller has been contaminated with black. the standard cleaning maintainance procedure didn't solve the problem. I was surprised to find that the the tray containing the cartridges is quite dirty....but not with black......I am therefore thinking I need to do a complete manual cleaning of the path through which the paper travels. Did HP publish instructions on how to do this cleaning?

Hello @D_E_S,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I understand you are getting printouts with a dirty background. I would like to help you with this.
I have not yet found a document about physically cleaning the paper path of your laserjet.
On inkjets you would use a lit free cloth or a cotton swab, lightly dampened with distilled or bottled watter.
then gently wipe the rollers in the direction that the paper travels. Always unplug the printer from its power source
before any cleaning is attempted. Afterwards wait a decent period of time to ensure it has dried.
I did, however, find one document that mentions your symptoms.
Try going through this document first.
Please let me know how it works out

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂
I understand that you have an HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer. I read that though the yellow cartridge is 90% full, the printer does not print the yellow color. Also, the link posted in the forums post is not opening. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.
I would like to know the following information to assist you better:
- Are you using the original HP toners or refilled ones?
I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
- Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
- Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
- The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
- Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
Please perform the steps as described in detail from this HP document. These steps help to fix all print quality related issues with this printer.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted. All the best! 🙂
