@IAmMadHatter, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Deskjet 4255e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here are the steps to troubleshoot your HP DeskJet 4255e printing issue:

Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your computer.
  • After a minute, plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Clear the Print Queue

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Find Print Spooler, right-click, and select Stop.
  • Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete any files.
  • Go back to Services, right-click on Print Spooler, and select Start.

Run the HP Print Doctor

  • Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website if you haven’t already.
  • When it asks for the username and password:
    • Username: admin (already populated)
    • Password: Try leaving it blank first. If that doesn’t work, try your computer’s administrator password or the PIN you use to log into Windows.

Remove and Reinstall the Printer

  • Open Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer, click Remove device.
  • Download the latest drivers from the HP Support site for the 4255e model.
  • Reinstall the printer and follow the on-screen setup instructions.

Check Printer Status and Connection

  • Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the printer → Set as Default Printer.
  • Right-click again → See what's printingPrinter (top left) → Uncheck Use Printer Offline (if checked).

Let me know how it goes!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
