Is your 1010 set as the default printer? You can check this by opening the Devices & Printers folder from the Start menu. Right-click your 1010 and select it as the default if it's not set that way already.

When it comes to test printing another photo, right-click the desired photo and click 'Open with.' Try using Paint or Windows Live Photo Gallery instead.

Hi @RHM1953,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums for your friend.

I understand your friend is using an HP Deskjet 1010 Printer with a Windows 7 computer and prictures will only print in black and white. I would like to help.

It sounds like a software issue if grayscale is not selected and the pictures get printed in black and white.

I woud start by downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor to sheck the printer software. This tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software issues.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

I am sorry, but this solution didn't solve the problem.

no issues reported, and the preview plus the print stays BW, altough the pic is in full color.

the print in gray is switched off.

thanks for any other thoughts about this problem.

Hi @RHM1953,

Thanks for getting back to me with the results.

If no problems were found with the printer software and pictures are printed in black and white even thought the print setting are set right, this could be a cartridge issue.

Thanks for your reply.

it being a cartidge issue is unlikely, since pictures or text PDFand Wordfile do print in color.

JPG or Tiffs not embedded in en textprogram don't.

must be a setting issue of one kind or another.

thanks again, robert

Hi @RHM1953,

I see your point.

If other things print from other programs in color, but files from this text progam do not, the issue could be with the program being used?

What is the name of the application/program that is not printing in color?

I will watch for your reply so I can assist you further. Please reply at your convenience.

Thanks a lot,

just heared that printing from Paint solves the problem.

so the solution is there, the cause of the problem still unknown.
