Perhaps it is helpful to find out the MAC address first by pressing the printers print page key for about 10 seconds. This leads to a full printout of the internal printer settings including the machines MAC address. If you install first the scanner and then the USB connected printer both should work. The network printer then should have the same MAC address as shown on the internal printout by adding this to the router with a fixed IP address and the MAC address. Be sure that the network connection is really running by checking the LED's at the printers network connection output; the green LED is steady, orange is blinking and check this also at the router or any switch in between, because the printer's LED do tell you if it is really connected through, which is irritating. You can also use the HP Print & Print Doctor. https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/printscandoctor. This will show, if a network connection is not completely working. Regards

Hello all
The solution is simple but strange
- First for each one of the printer models that you are having the error, yo have to search the OLD printer drivers of the model that you have at the HP web home page, you can google it.
- Inside the HP official web at the section at the All Drivers section, search for the menu : "Installation Software and Full/Basic Driver-Supports print and scan functionality only" (this can vary between models). There you are going to find 1 or more Drivers, just try to check and install the oldest one that usually has the model number, example: "HP DeskJet 2130 series Print and Scan Driver and Accessories". And in doubt just check the Driver release date, example: Nov 24, 2021. (try to search for the oldest, and check that has the word Driver).
- Once you install the old Driver, it will look like everything is working on this old HP Driver software installation and at the end it will usually refer you to open the app: HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software (Internet connection required for driver installation). (install if its still not installed, is at the same section as the old driver)
- Open the app: HP easy start, and the printer will be online and working! good luck!

That didn't work for me. I installed the original drivers that came with my printer and it didn't work, I got some sort of error message, similar to the HP Smart error message. I've come to the conclusion that older HP printers are not compatible with newer modems/routers
