Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is it possible to perform a factory reset of the 8610 without using the touchscreen? The touchscreen shows the "damaged cartridge" error screen,  with no other buttons available.  I've tried the "soft reset" and the "semi-full reset" to no avail.  I have removed the side panels, so I  have access inside the machine, if there is something inside that will let me do a factory reset.

Hi @Nerd_1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Performing a factory reset on the HP Officejet Pro 8610 without using the touchscreen can be a bit challenging, but you can try the following steps.

  • Power Off the Printer: Turn off the printer by disconnecting the power cable from the back.
  • Remove Power Cord: Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait for a Few Minutes: Allow the printer to remain unplugged for at least 2-3 minutes. This will ensure that any residual power is drained.
  • Reconnect Power Cord: Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  • Reconnect to Power: Reconnect the power cable to the back of the printer.
  • Power On the Printer: Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Additionally, you can refer to the printer's user manual or documentation for specific instructions on performing a factory reset without using the touchscreen.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The error message still appears after turning the power back on using those steps. I have tried this and other suggestions multiple times. A factory reset is my last shot before pitching this in the trash.  PLEASE give me the instructions on how to do a factory reset without using the touchscreen.

Hi @Nerd_1,

Thank you for your response,

The HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer typically allows you to perform a factory reset using the control panel on the device. However, if you're unable to use the touchscreen, you can try the following steps.

Note: Before proceeding with a factory reset, make sure to disconnect any cables from the printer except the power cord.

Power Off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.

Disconnect Power Cord:

  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.

Wait for a Minute:

  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes to allow the printer's internal components to completely power down.

Reconnect Power Cord:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer.

Power On the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer by pressing the power button.

Wait for Initialization:

  • Allow the printer to power up and initialize. This may take a few minutes.

By following these steps, you're essentially performing a power cycle, which can sometimes have a similar effect to a factory reset. If this doesn't resolve your issue or if you have specific reasons for a factory reset, and if you have access to a computer connected to the printer, you might consider performing a factory reset through the printer software on the computer.

Remember to consult your printer's manual for specific instructions related to your model, as the steps can vary. If you don't have the manual, you can usually find it on the HP website or by searching for it online using your printer's model number.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
