how do you reply to the expert that seem to have answer to the problem......i.e. How in Win 10 do you get to the old fashion window to "ADD PRINTER"  then select printer and driver

In Windows 10 plug in the printer's USB cable, then  press the Windows key, type control panel, click Control Panel Desktop App , click  Devices and Printers, Add a printer.  click "The printer that I want isn't listed", Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, Next, Use an existing post, select the highest numbered USB00n: port ot Dot4: port, Next.  Click Windows Update, then wait a few minutes for the screen to refresh.  Select HP for the manufacturer and for the Deskjet 6122 select  "hp deskjet 990c", Next, Next, rename the printer something like HP Deskjet 6122 or whatever you want to call it, Next, Next, set as default and/or print a test page, Finish.

I found what you suggested.....so far it seems to be working.....think I might have a bad cartridge......Thanks for the help

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help determine which cartridge is at fault for low on ink or electrical issues.

 

If the color cartridge is not properly printing cyan or yellow it may be due to a very old cartridge.  This could be resolved with a fresh cartridge.  Sometimes color can be restored by getting a coffee cup and putting 2" of very hot water in it.  Put the cartridge in the cup with the printhead down and let the cartridge soak for ten minutes.  Remove the cartridge and dry the electrical contacts with a lint free wipe - a clean coffee filter works well.

 

 

When the PRINT CARTRIDGE light flashes, open the Access Cover (also known as the top cover or lid) on the printer. When the Access Cover on the printer is opened, the print cradle moves and the yellow arrow on top points to a drawing of a cartridge. Each drawing (known as a print cartridge status icon) describes a symptom. The meaning of each drawing is described below.

Problem
The color cartridge is missing, improperly installed, defective, or the wrong print cartridge is installed.
Solution
1. If there is no color cartridge in the cartridge cradle, insert a color cartridge.
2. If there is a color cartridge in the cradle, remove the color cartridge and firmly reinsert it.
3. Check to make sure the color cartridge is appropriate for the printer.
4. If the problem persists, replace the color cartridge.
Problem
The black cartridge is missing, improperly installed, the wrong print cartridge, or is defective.

Got the old gray matter working and recalled how to get there....... should be able to drag instructions along with you as you go throught the steps....... did get the printer to work per your instructions...... Test Page printed fine......brought up word doc.  and nothing.....turned the printer off...and it started pringting the doc.....ask it to do another copy and she went as it should
