I recently purchased this printer and enrolled in instant ink. I quickly found out that the printer cannot communicate with the instant ink servers because of my firewall. Support could not give any advice as to how to fix the issue so I un enrolled in instant ink (since I could never use it). Now I get errors related to instant ink on my printer that block it from printing. How to I unconfigure it on the printer?

I understand you would like to know how to cancel the instant ink contract.

 

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

 

Did you make any changes to your printer?

 

Have you cancelled the instant ink account?

 

Does the issue persist when you put the old ink cartridge back to your printer?

 

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

 

Replace low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on your printer.

 

Please stop Web Services on the printer.

 

HP Instant Ink > How to > Instant Ink > Manage Account > Turning Off Web Services

 

Optional - be sure Web Services is "off":

After you switch off Web Services, wait a minute and then switch off the printer.

Wait until the printer is completely shut down > wait a minute or two.

Switch on the printer.

 

Install all new HP ink -- replacing/installed "a" new ink won't do it -- all Instant Ink cartridges must be removed regardless of whether they have ink.

 

Also, if you still have issues cancelling the account. Please share us few details through a private message.

Thanks for your input everyone. I am getting many authentication errors in this chat room after I log in and most of my replies are getting lost. In case this one succeeds, I did try turning off Web services but that seemed to trigger the problem. When I turned them on again the problem mostly cleared in that I've only had this error once since then. Note, I canceled my subscription over a week ago after the initial failures and never recieved or used any instant ink cartridges.

Thanks again but no need to send any instant ink cartridges. As I mentioned previously I had to cancel my subscription. If any one has any suggestions about how to make it work through my firewall though I would consider trying it again.

@Steve300, Thanks for your prompt response again.

 

As you have cancelled the subscription and still have issues with the printer.

 

Try restoring the printer settings to default and check if it helps.

 

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the
Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
5. Touch Restore.

Here is only way to get untangled from Instant Ink. I tried all of the configuration steps and as far as I can tell the printer will always be connected to the instant ink servers. However you can disable the service as follows:

1. write an email complaint [Content Removed]

2. Hopefully your complaint will be connected to a case manager as in my situation.

3. The case manager will contact you and should disable the subscription and allow you to use the ink cartriges that were included with your printer.

 

You may still get various error messages about connecting to the instant ink service but you won't incur any costs.
