A few weeks ago, my hp pagewide pro 477dw stopped printing black. I get some lines, but pretty much nothing. I have done the self-cleaning. I figured there must me something up with my ink, so I paid $150. for new black toner. nope, no change.   I even paid $100 for the advanced cleaning pad- what a joke, a sheet of paper with a sponge???

I paid $700.00 for the printer is a about 2 years ago. I have seen multiple threads about this and there appears to be NO RESOLUTION to what is clearly a known fault! There is no service or support this.

So good bye HP! good bye to you're BS forcing me to use only HP INK- you don't even offer a recycling program, I have buy more of your ink.  I mean the cost of new toner for this thing is almost the cost of the printer????? then you make a product that won't last for more than 2 years.

If anyone has any actual solutions to this issue let me know I really hate to trash this thing, but it is very much just useless to me now.

From your description it sounds like you have blank ink fade issues. This occurs when pigment from the black ink, separates from the carrier fluid, sinks to the bottom of the printhead ink tank and clogs the nozzles. The ink formulation was changed a while back to address this issue but if you already have the issue you need to replace the ink, which it sounds like you did. Upgrade the firmware and then print 100 pages of black page. The movement of ink will usually loosen up the clog. Sometimes you need to let it sit overnight after printing the 100 pages and then run a cleaning. As you already have a new ink, you have nothing to lose in trying.

I personally believe that these is too much mis-information regarding the advanced cleaning kit and post this as a FYI for any one reading this post. The sheet is only designed to clean ink or paper dust to stop fine lines caused by debris sticking to the printhead shims. This sheet will not reverse the effects of Black Ink Fade.

Color inks are dye based on this model so this issues does not apply to color print defects.

appreciate the input. I am thinking we're on the right track as this has somewhat improved things. This is the current result of black. good news, it's actually printing black. bad news, when it's cold the first few pages are not this good. when printing text, I am loosing letters or whole words.Scan.jpg
