I understand that your printer is making noises while printing. I would take a look at the document below.
Let me know how it goes.

I'm having the same issue. I bought the HP 5520 last month and within 2 prints there was a loud grinding of gears sound. over and over so I exchanged the printer. The 2nd one has been great for about 2 weeks when out of no where, yesterday GRIIIIND! it's loud and startling... it sounds like gears are not lining up properly and it's trying to.
I read the description to clean the rollers, which I will but I'm not sure how these smooth rollers could cause the gears to click and grind loudly. Please advise.

I agree with you. Your description is much better than mine. I will clean the rollers, but I don't understand how these rollers would cause or make the gear grinding noise. To my fingers, they seem to be rolling smoothly.

Hi polymer,
Try the troubleshooting steps in this document and let me know if it helps resolve the grinding noise. Also, if your printer is new, it is still in warranty. Call in and speak to a live rep about this issue if the steps in the document, do not resolve it.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, begin Here.
Please let me know if this helps.
Good luck!

cleaning the rollers did not solve the grinding gear sounds. I bought this printer and had to return it within a week, this is the 2nd one doing the same thing. I'm thinking this is a feature of the printer model itself, is it not? After 2 new printers doing the same thing, will a 3rd really not do it? Is there a comparable printer model you can recommend?

What do you use the printer for? What do you print most of - documents or photos? How much is it used? If you can tell me this, I can help. I'd rather fit a printer for what you need, than blindly try to match the one you're having trouble with. It may not be right for you either.
Thanks!
