My printer decided to only partially copy a page. I followed some of the ideas suggested such as shutting down the printer and making sure all settings were correct. This did not help.
Any ideas what might be broken or need replacing?

Hi @missdebbie74u,
Thank you for joining the HP Forums!
I read your post that your HP Offficejet Pro 8600 printer will not copy a full page. I am happy to help!
Some questions for you:
- What is the type/size/weight of paper that you are trying to copy?
- What happens if you try to scan the paper?
- Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet, or a surge protector?
- Are you using Genuine HP ink cartridges, or refills?
- Are any of your ink cartridges low or empty?
Once I know the answers to these questions, I will look into this further for you!

Answers:
- What is the type/size/weight of paper that you are trying to copy? Regular copy paper, 8 1/2" x 11", 20 lb,
- What happens if you try to scan the paper? Scanning, copying was the problem
- Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet, or a surge protector? Into a surge protector, can't reach wall outlet
- Are you using Genuine HP ink cartridges, or refills? Yes, HP new ink cartridges only
- Are any of your ink cartridges low or empty? ink levels are fine
I have shut the printer off for long periods of time (I use to just leave it on. It finally started printing from the computer and copying from the scanner. I am still concerned something might be going bad. Any ideas?
Thanks for your reply!

Hi missdebbie74u,
Thank you for answering my questions!
It is possible that the scanner light could be on it's way out, or possibly, the scanner bar itself. But it is hard to say. Reason being is the surge protector. As sometimes, the surge protector could not be providing enough electricity to the printer in order for the copy/scan function to work properly. Especially if there are other devices plugged into the same surge protector.
If possible, I would try plugging the printer directly into the wall outlet, just to see if the issue is with the surge protector, or the printer. If the same thing does not happen while plugged directly to the wall outlet, then the issue is with the surge protector. See this article, Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector for more information. (Even though it says Laserjet printers, this does apply to your printer as well.)

Hi,
I am having similar difficulties with the new officejet 8740. A routine 8.5 x11 insurance document will not copy to the long edge of the page cutting of about 3-5% off the document information. I have tried copying and scanning. I have tried numerous fixes including edge to edge; reducing paper size by %; fit to page, nothing has worked.
I also have a photsmart 7520 with the same exact issues.
It appears that this is an inherent problem with HP printers, (at least with the ones I have).
Neither printer is conected to a surge protector. Both printers are in good condition otherwise.
Thanks
