Hi,
Try installing the latest firmware version (2132A) and try printing using Apple AirPrint again:

Please let me know the results,

I have exactly the same problem when using AirPrint from my iphone and ipad to print Word and pdf files to my HP Pagewide Pro 577dw. The same issue is being mentioned by many people on an Apple Community blog. It could be a HP firmware problem as in AirPrint the 'to be printed' pages appear normally on the iphone and ipad screens. The question marks in boxes only appear within the printed page. Comments suggest that BOTH Apple and HP are ignoring their users. I still believe that it is a HP firmware problem which needs an upgrade to fix it. I want to make clear that these files print fine from my Dell laptop.

This problem is not solved. The printer recently upgraded its firmware on 8/2/2021 and this printing problem suddenly started. I changed from AirPrint to directly printing to the printer. AirPrint was instantaneous to print. Now the page prints correctly, HOWEVER, it now takes nearly 50 seconds to start printing a document. This is a horrible tradeoff. When will HP issue a bug fix for mac machines that upgraded to the latest OS? Also, we cannot successfully print from iPhones or iPads anymore.

Considering this is a HP SUPPORT COMMUNITY site, I am surprised that HP has not commented. It would be great for those, including myself, who have purchased and rely on a HP printer to receive an acknowledgement from HP that they are investigating the matter. I have a HP Pagewide Pro 577dw and when printing from my iPad and iPhone using AirPrint often the question marks in boxes appear. I have also noticed oblong boxes infrequently appearing in print outs from my iPhone/iPad Notes folder. This latter event has occurred since the question marks started to appear. Please HP, can we get a Firmware update to correct these inconveniences?
