@mag9raiders, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP MFP E42540 printer.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

The error code 99.39.67 typically indicates a serious issue with the printer’s hard drive or disk drive, often related to formatting or file system errors. Since you performed a partial clean, it seems there may be issues with accessing the firmware recovery partition.

Here’s what you can try to resolve the error:

Steps to Resolve Error 99.39.67:

  1. Verify USB Flash Drive Format:

    • Ensure the USB flash drive is formatted to FAT32, as other formats may not be recognized by the printer.
    • Try using a different USB drive to rule out compatibility issues.
  2. Correct USB Port:

    • Make sure you are using the correct USB port on the printer and that it is enabled, as some ports might be disabled by default.
  3. Manual Firmware Update:

    • Prepare the firmware file by downloading the correct firmware from the HP support website.
    • Prepare the USB flash drive with the correct firmware file and insert it into the printer.
    • Try accessing the Pre-boot menu by restarting the printer and interacting with the control panel.
    • Navigate using the arrow buttons to the firmware update option and attempt to update from the USB. This process can sometimes restore the necessary components of the firmware.
  4. Cold Reset:

    • Try performing a cold reset from the Pre-boot menu:
      • Use the arrow buttons to highlight “Startup Options” and select “Cold Reset.”
      • Be aware that a cold reset will restore all settings to factory defaults.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!

Run diagnostics from the pre-boot menu. There are two storage media tests that run. One for eMMC drives and hard disk. Your printer likely shipped with an eMMC drive so you will get a failure on hard disk but if the eMMC is working you should get a pass. If it fails you will need to replace it. You get to the preboot menu by touching the logo on the screen when it appears during startup. Once in preboot,  go to administration and then diagnostics.
