Hi

My Printer is hp deskjet hp990cxi

I upgraded to windows 10 So now using windows driver . I tried to use print and scan doctor. finds printer but won't find ink levels using ink supplys comes up with message not connected or not installed but it already found it. tried fix printing but comes up with error on device status: cleaning cartridge (message) . go to printer services but all icons greyed out. If I skip the device status error and try test page it prints the test page no problem so why don't the other options work.

regards

That would be the only way I found to get the printer to print without relying on software on a Windows PC. The only other way to reliably display the ink levels would be to connect the printer to a Windows XP PC.

Hey @sbrobbs,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you are having some issues with printing from your Windows 10 PC to your Deskjet 990cxi Printer. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done:

  1. If your printer is connected to your PC through a USB cable, remove it.
  2. Close all programs you have open.
  3. In your search bar type in Printers and open Devices and Printers.
  4. Right-click on any icon of your printer listed.
  5. Click on Remove Device.
  6. Repeat for any other icon of your printer listed.
  7. Connect the USB cable.

Please let me know if this resolves your issues. If it does, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

If the Supply Levels drop down is not providing you with any info, it may be because the printer is older than the Print and Scan Doctor.

You may be able to print out a report by holding down the resume button for about five seconds and releasing.

Please let me know if that provides you with your ink levels.
