Using the HP Utility app on Mac, seems that the connection to the device randomly connects then disconnects (Normal?) the utility app looses connection and printing that seems to work once during setup / self test then stops working.

This is the same HP m277dw printer, windows printing seems consistently working.

Mac dialog varies from "Printing-Connected to printer" but then never prints but goes to a "Paused" state and loop.

"Printing - Print Job was not accepted"  seems to pop-up before going to  the "Ready to Print" state.

HELP this is day four in trying to resolve.

Hi@circletee22,

I understand how frustrating this can be. I was just notified today of your post.

The software for this model uses the HP Easy Start download.

Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.
On the product control panel, press or touch the Setup  button.
Open the Reports  menu.
Select Configuration Report.

Did the self test page print?

If you have a valid IPv4 address which is listed on the Configuration Report for the printer, then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer. Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Safari)

Did it load the webpage?

Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:

Close all applications.

On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.

Double-click Disk Utility.

Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.

Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.

Restart the computer..

Reset the Printing System:

Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.

Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.

Click Printers & Scanners.

Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.

Click OK to confirm the reset.

Type the correct Name and Password.

Click OK to reset the printing system.

Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button.

If you are having issues, then add the printer through the IP Protocol.
After clicking the + button, select the IP Protocol across the top, type in the printer's IPv4 address, select jet direct below and then Apply.

Test the printer.

Try adding the printer with the Airprint driver to see if you have the same results.

If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below.

If you have any issues, please let me know what steps you have taken and the results. Thank You.

THanks for your notes.

>Printer -Reports Menu -Yes Self Test printed

>IPv4 address - open URL in browser (ex 10.0.0.116) slow but connected with HP printer page

> Repair Mac Disk Permissions - Done & Restarted

> Reset Printing System - DONE and cleared

> Added Printer - suggested using Airprint driver (M277 offers "secure AirPrint" driver but = same results - "Printing - waiting for job to complete"  (Tried this on 3 different mac computers, with similar results not working yet.

(Added a LJ4250 worked with 4250 driver and successfully added OfficeJet8600 working with AirPrint driver)

> Added Printer with HP M277 driver vs airprint = "Ready to Prin - 1 page" (Resume button) > "Printing - connected to printer"  printed once, then subsequent prints stopped working.  Tried on 2nd mac same results not working.  "Printing-Print Job not accepted" error message  , other times it says "Printing - connected to printer"

Q> WHich dirver should I use with the M277  Secure AirPrint or HP Driver?  (Officejet 8600 seems to work with both) Apple Printer update may be the reason it is working, but the M277 isnt on the "supported printers list"  Is this the problem?

On another mac Im trying to setup the M277 it sees it but during the setup it says connection to printer lost, then no printers are available.  Immediatley going to the windows PC and printing the printer works fine.  Definitely any  mac printing issue with the M277 only

OSX 10.10.3  (inlcuding all app-updates including the 3.0 mac printing update)

HP M277dw FW20150126

windows printing seems to work fine just all the macs are not able to print to the M277, they can print to the officejet 8600 and laserjet 4250 just fine (now and even before all the above steps).

hello gemeni02

saw your post to private message you to make sure you got the response, not sure I see how to do that in the web interface, there just seems to be the option to "reply"

In all this testing the laserjet 4250 and officejet 8600 seems to print from the mac with either the airprint or the HP version of the driver.  I don't get why the m277 is not printing short of it's not on the list from apple on the supported printers.

My office jet went from greet to "low ink" and all i've been doing is just printer tests to get this working on the mac burning up paper and ink.  is there further direct help I can get on this, spending alot of time with this and I really don't want to return this thing.  Yes it works great with windows 8.1 to HP m2777, just any of the 5 macs i've tested with all FAIL.

Thanks for you suggestions for help here

Hi circletee22 ,

Thanks for providing that detailed information. I would try the Airprint and the HP driver from the Easy Start install. Which it looks like you have already tried. The 3.0 drivers most likely won't have this model listed, since it is new printer.

I will be going over to the lab today and installing the printer on our Yosemite computer, to find out what the issue might be. Then I can reply back to you with my results.

To send Private Messages, you would click on my handle, then on right side of the page, click on Send this user a Private Message. To view the messages, where it shows your handle name, there is a envelope that you click on to view any Private Message replies.

Thank You for your patience. :generic:

Hi circletee22 ,

I went to the HP site and downloaded the HP Easy Start on 10.10.2. Ran the installation as a USB connection, (printer isn't currently on our network) selected the printer, check the HP Driver/Utility and the HP Scan. Had a option to select the HP Driver later on, which I did and it successfully installed and printed the test page. When the window came up to add the printer I had to click on the drop down and select the Laserjet M277dw from the list.

I tested the printing and it printed from the computer, also it successfully scanned a document from the HP Scan Software.

So I am not sure why your isn't printing. Let me know if you had the same selections during the installation.

Thank You.

Hi circletee22,

I have added the PM's to the forum, this way we can keep everything together and it might be helpful to others on the forum.

OMG - at least for printing this works like a charm!  It even prints large files & PPTs.

I assume this is a temporary fix till some SW patch is released and that scanning and other things won't work for now.   I can use the windows system but we are primarily all mac now.

I'm guessing there is the next  apple fix after 3.0 ( 3.0 printer patch =  https://support.apple.com/kb/DL907?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US  ) will have support for the M277 so you can use it like normal?

If there's other things I can do better please let me know as I need to deploy this temporary fix on 12 macs.

I'm a little scared to try to get scanning working, but that is one reason for buying this is for the "Scan to  Computer" feature.  If you have suggestions for how to do this with the mac it would be much appreciated, in the mean time I'm delighted I can now print!

Hi,

Just checking in the IP printing worked on all the macs for printing.  I assume that this doesnt work for the scanning functionality and I need to wait till the standard driver is available?  I believe you were testing on your end the mac printing, so I'll wait to hear back on how to do the scanning side.  I can scan to windows or to USB temporarily, delighted that we found a way to do network color printing.
THANK YOU!!!!

Please advise best step for doing the HP M277 scan to mac, or scan to email step as we would like to scan from the HP M277 and get the files on the mac, not the PC, and doesn't use USB.

Hi circletee22,

I was able to network the Laserjet M277dw to the Mac Lab and add the printer as a Bonjour printer.

I opened up the HP Scan Software and beside the printer name I clicked on the dropdown and added the printer again here as a Laserjet M277dw and was able to scan the document successfully over the wireless network. (the original Laserjet M277dw was probably the USB driver) Make sure the scanning ports are open on the router. You can contact the router company to check and open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router, if you aren't sure how to.

I have provided a document for Scanning from the Control Panel for HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277n and M277dw Printers.

Hope this helps. Thank You.

Thanks for the info, good to know it is working on your end.

THe router we have is the Xfinity Small Business Router manufactured by Cisco DPC-3939  By switching routers, comcast makes it really hard to get support for the router.

open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router

Q> Opening a port is not neccessarily port forwarding, on the advanced router menu there are choice of:

Port forwarding (external access to router), Port Tiggering, Remote Management, DMZ and Device Discovery; there isn't an "Open Port" function in the xfinity SW.  Which function does the "open these ports 9220/9500/427 on the router"?

On the Firewall tab, there are only choices of

- IPv4 (set to medium),  -IPv6 set to "typical (Default)"  both have a similar customize setting with WAN-toLAN checkboxes like : block http, Block ICMP, BlockMulticast, Block Peer-to-peer apps, block IDEN (port 113) and Disable entire firewall.

All these Port setting seem related to WAN-to-LAN settings, but not LAN-to-LAN, I assume the port opening function is the firewall aspect.

Thanks

Hi circletee22,

You would need to contact the router company for the different configurations on the router.

Thank You.
