I need to add my new wireless network (replaced the old one), and my printer won't let me in.  Most items are "locked by Administrator." To do anything it keeps asking for user name & password. I don't recall setting this up and in any case if I did I have forgotten it. I have followed advice on here to reset the admin password without success as it requires a password to reset the password. I have tried everything and am at my wits end, close to binning the printer and getting a non-HP replacement. Anyone any ideas, apart from putting it in a skip?

I understand that your HP OfficeJet 8600 Series Printer says "locked by administrator" when you're trying to access the setup menu on the printer. I read that the wireless network has been changed and you would like to setup the printer wirelessly. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

We will need to perform a semi full reset on the printer. This reset will restore the printer to it's original factory condition and will also make the "lock by administrator message go away. I have sent you a private message with the semi full reset steps.

Secondly, I found that if you're planning to use the printer on Mac OS, then the minimum system requirements are OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard, OS X v10.7 Lion, OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion, OS X v10.9 Mavericks, OS X v10.10 Yosemite, and OS X v10.11 El Capitan. You may check the "System requirements" from this HP document.

Hope this information helps. Let me know how it goes. I'll be glad to assist you further.

Take care! 🙂
