Hi @Estelle26, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
During an HP printer setup, an Unable to register the printer to your account error displays in the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start. An error code UA_200_OWSVD00001 might be included in the message.
Please try these steps,
1. Hard Reset the Printer
Since you're unable to find factory reset instructions, follow these steps:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from power for 1-2 minutes.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Reset to factory settings:
- Press and hold the Wireless (🛜) and Cancel (X) buttons together for 5-10 seconds until the power light starts blinking.
- Wait for the printer to restart.
2. Check Printer Connection
- Since your printer shows "Online" but is disconnected in HP Smart, try the following:
- Restart your router, printer, and computer.
- Forget the printer in HP Smart, then re-add it.
- If on Wi-Fi, reconnect using the HP Smart app:
- Open HP Smart, go to "Printer Setup", and follow the instructions.
- If using USB, try a different port.
3. Update the HP Smart app
From your app store, check for and update the HP Smart app to the latest version, which can fix setup or connection issues.
Open the HP Smart app in your app store.
Microsoft Store (Windows): HP Smart
Mac App Store (macOS): HP Smart for Desktop
Google Play Store (Android): HP Smart
App Store (iOS): HP Smart
Click Update to get the last HP Smart version.
If only Open displays, the app is up to date.
4. Make sure the printer is ready for software setup
Check for any remaining packing materials and make sure the printer is in a ready state.
1. Make sure all packing materials and tape have been removed. Open the cartridge access door and the paper tray to look for and remove any remaining materials inside the printer.
2. Turn the printer off and then on again.
3. Return to the error window in the HP Smart app, and then click Try Again.
If the issue is not resolved, select Exit Setup, and then close HP Smart. Restart the printer, and then reopen HP Smart to complete the setup.

I did the procedure, with all the possible resets on february, worked for a month then the printer began to show a message that said I will soon be unable to print because of an activation problem, now it stopped printing again; This time the reset brings me always to this error without succes. I'm very disappointed, i had to buy another printer to work: I would get rid of the cloud services if they are so unstable!

@tolosband, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially after you already went through all the resets.
A few key questions to narrow this down:
- Are you signed into HP Smart or an HP+ account (instant ink)?
- Is the printer still connected to the internet, or does it show offline in HP Smart?
- Have you tried removing the printer from your HP Smart account and setting it up as a new device?
- If you go to the Embedded Web Server (EWS) (by typing the printer’s IP address in a browser), does it show any activation or connection issues?
Let me know what you’ve checked, and we’ll figure out a way to get this printer working again! 😊
Take care and have a good day.
