I've been trying to embed escape sequences from the pcl 5 manual but doesn't seem to change anything.
Is there some other method for controlling format to the HP line of printers?
I was using Notepad just as a test.

The OfficeJet 5610 All-In-One device does not understand PCL5.
According to the datasheet, it only supports the (proprietary?) LIDIL Page Description Language.

... and if you are using NotePad and (somehow) embedding escape sequences in the text, but then using the File | Print item to print the text, this implies that you are making use of a Windows printer driver.
Even if you were printing to a PCL5 supporting LaserJet printer, how those embedded escape sequences would interact with the sequences generated by the printer driver is undefined.
