Hi @DeJohns,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Printhead missing or incorrectly installed" error on an HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer can be caused by a few different issues. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve this problem.

Check Printhead Installation:

  • Open the printer access door.
  • Wait for the carriage to move to the center of the printer.
  • Check to ensure that the printhead is correctly installed. If it's loose or improperly seated, remove it and reseat it firmly.
  • Make sure the cartridges are properly inserted and securely latched.

Inspect the Printhead Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the printhead and cartridges.
  • Inspect the contacts on both the printhead and the printer for any dirt, residue, or damage.
  • Clean the contacts gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Be careful not to touch the nozzles on the printhead.

Reset the Printer:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Wait for it to initialize.
  • Reinsert the printhead and cartridges.
  • Close the printer access door.
  • If the error persists, try a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it, and waiting for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Update Firmware:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve hardware-related issues. You can check for firmware updates on HP's official website and follow their instructions for updating.

Remember that the "Printhead missing or incorrectly installed" error can also be triggered by a faulty printhead,

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
