Try these steps:

Verify Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots. Sometimes, cartridges need to be reseated properly.
  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove the cartridges and reinsert them, making sure they click securely into place.

Clean Electrical Contacts:

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove the ink cartridges.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Reinsert the cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all cables (including the power cable).
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes.
  • Reconnect the power cable and other cables.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges compatible with your HP InkJet 2842E model. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause errors.
