what software available to manage my deskjet 6540 and how to get it to read my color cartridge 97?

HP Recommended
deskjet 6540
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just picked this up used, had to refill the cartridges and now printer is blinking for the color cartridge not printing(until I stop the blinking light).  On the site, here:

it looks like there is no software to manage this printer like most other printers.  Is this indeed the case and I have to just go off the printer's non-display interface of a couple lights and buttons to go off of to read this machine?  

 

And anyone have any tricks to get this to stop blinking?  I've got a cartridge I just refilled and ready to go if I can just get the printer to accept it.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the cartridge light is blinking on the printer.
