Hello, i was printing my photos on glossy paper with no problems-then out of no where I begin getting paper jam messages, although there is no paper jam. I went thru the steps of cleaning all the rollers in the printer, pluging the printer directly into a wall outlet and restarting the printer--But I'm still receiving paper jam errors (only when attempting to print on glossy paper) Can someone please help.

Thank-You,

Cutemilo

@Cutemilo

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer. I read that the printer gives a false paper jam error while printing only on glossy photo paper. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Does the paper jam error appear on the printer or the computer screen?
  • Have you selected the correct paper type and size from the print settings of the application you're trying to print from?

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

Also, update the firmware on your printer. The firmware can be downloaded and installed via this link. You may restart the printer after the firmware update is successfully installed.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Feel free to let me know how it goes. 🙂

Thank-You for your suggestion with the paper jam issues  I was having. But after speaking with HP they said my printer was having a hardware malfunction & sent me another printer :generic:

sounds like your printer is actually having a problem picking the paper up in it's tray.  you will need to see if the printer is capable of picking up that media in the specs.  if it can, perhaps get the pickup roller more sticky.  use some rubber rejuvinator ideally but if all else is not available, use some dish soap.  a drop on your finger and scrape on the pickup roller with your fingernail after soaping it up a little.  then use a damp washcloth to wipe it down.  it will need to be nice and sticky/tacky feeling to get ahold of that paper.

forgot to mention, make sure your paper guides are in the right place.  if the paper isn't held to the tray where it needs to be (if it picks up in front and the paper is back from the front of the tray, it won't pick it and will give the paper jam message because it didn't pick up a sheet)
