Hello, @Steptoeing60

Thanks for the update! Glad to know that you were able to use the printer by connecting using the Wi-Fi direct 🙂

Now, to answer your question, Wi-Fi direct operates differently to than that of a local wireless network. Wi-Fi Direct provides a direct wireless connection to your HP printer that allows you to print without joining a local network or connecting to the Internet. Think of it as an extended version of the Bluetooth technology.

Wi-Fi direct is very useful when you do not have a home network and still, like to print wireless. But since you have the home network, I would advise you connect the printer to the home network. Once you do that, you can print from your mobile devices as well as Chromebook without using the Wi-Fi direct. You can use the WPS option to connect your printer to the home network.

Press and hold the Wireless button  on the printer until the Wireless light blinks, and then press the WPS button on your router. Wait for the wireless light to stop blinking and remain solid. If you do not have WPS option on your router, then you might need to use a MAC or Windows PC to get your printer connected.
