Deskjet 1112
Microsoft Windows XP

I bought the printer in January and successfully installed and used it on my desktop computer running Windows XP Service Pack 3 using the HP installation disk that came with the printer. Recently, I had a computer virus that required that I reinstall Windows. I restored it back to XP SP3 just like it was in January. Now I cant install the printer. When I use the HP installation disk, Instead of the driver and software installation screens, I only get a window that indicates that I must update .NET Framework to Rev. 3.5. Then I get an error message and am forced to close.   The same thing happens when I use the downloaded installation files DJ1110_61.exe and DJ1110_Basicx86_61.exe.   I also tried installing the printer using the Windows “Add Printer” routine. When asked, I specify “HAVE DISK” and I go to the installation directory that has the file hpygid16.inf. Then it copies the drivers to directory Windows\system32|spool\W32X86\hpdeskjet_1110_serie72f8. (I know what the names of the drivers are because I kept the test print page from the original printer installation.) After the Windows routine has finished, I get the message "printer driver was not installed", "operation could not be completed". No printer icon is added to the Control Panel.

The HP Help routines, HPPDDr.exe (Print and Scan Doctor) and HPPIE.exe (Printer and Install Wizard). Both recognize the printer but indicate that the printer is “Not installed”. The print and scan doctor indicates that there is a driver conflict. (btw, the printer and install wizard no longer works, it worked for me a week ago, but now it indicates it is for Windows 7 and later only.)

Any suggestions you may have for me to get this printer reinstalled would be appreciated.

Hi George51,

Thank you for your response!

I would recommend to try creating a new user account, and then start the computer in safe mode, make sure to login to the new user account after, and try the install again.

Hi @George51,

Thank you for joining the HP Forums!

I noticed your post on how you cannot install your HP Deskjet 1112 printer, on Windows XP SP3. And, I am happy to help!

Please try the steps within this guide, Installation Disc Does Not Start (Windows XP). This also sounds like a possible issue with Windows XP SP3 itself. I would also recommend going through this article, update .NET Framework to Rev. 3.5 by Microsoft. Then try installing the printer software again.

If this helps, please consider clicking on 'accept as solution.' And, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hope this will get the software installed for you! 🙂

I appreciate your help.  I've tried everything suggested by the installation guide (Link 1).  When I use the Setup command in the installation disk or the executables, all it does is ask me to update to .NET Framework and then fails and closes.  When I try the Microsoft update to .NET Framework (LiNK 2), It gives me the message "None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer.  Click cancel to exit setup."  It is curious that back in January I was able to install the printer with the same version of .NET Framework I am using now.  I think I now need an installer that does not use .NET Framework or I need to do more of a manual installation, where the setup routines are separate executables.  I believe I have the drivers installed, but I am missing the other part of the installation that tells windows there is a printer and installs the properties and preferences.  More suggestions would be welcomed.

SOLVED

Many Thanks, but I solved it.

I solved the problem by deleting and reinstalling .NET Framework. I used METHOD 3 from the Microsoft webpage https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976982. This method requires deleting Framework using the dotNETFx cleanup tool and then reinstalling it in three parts using dotnetfx.exe, NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe, and dotnetfx35setup.exe. Then the printer installed fine with installation file DJ1110_61.exe from the HP website.

How I was able to install the printer previously without .NET Framework is still a mystery.  I think that maybe this solution may help others who are having trouble installing a printer on Windows XP.

My one comment to HP would be to make it clear upfront that .NET Framework 3.5 is among the Minimum System Requirements for this printer. The minimum system requirements on the box only listed XP Service Pack 3, with no mention of the requirement to have .NET Framework.

Thanks again for your comments.
