I have an HP DESKJET 4100 t that's fairly new. Today the power button started flashing and I can't get it to do anything. I've already un-plugged the thing to restart twice. It just goes back to flashing. Help!!

Hi @clc857,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A continually flashing power button on your HP DeskJet 4100 series printer often indicates an issue that needs attention. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the problem.
Check for Error Messages or Notifications
- Look at the printer's control panel or your computer screen for any error messages or notifications. These can give you a clue about what's causing the issue.
Check Ink Cartridges
- Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and not empty. If they are low or empty, replace them with new ones.
Check Paper Tray and Paper Jam
- Make sure there’s paper in the tray and check for any paper jams inside the printer. Remove any stuck paper carefully.
Reset the Printer
- Since you've already unplugged the printer twice, try a more thorough reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check the Printer's Status Lights
- If other lights are flashing along with the power button, it might indicate a specific error. Refer to the user manual to interpret these lights, or I can help you with them.
Perform a Factory Reset
- If the issue persists, you may need to perform a factory reset on the printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold the Resume button (the one with a triangle icon) and press the Power button.
- Continue to hold the Power button and release the Resume button.
- Then press the Resume button twice and release both buttons.
- The printer should restart and reset to its factory settings.
Check for Firmware Updates
- If your printer connects to the internet, check for firmware updates. Updated firmware can fix bugs and issues that might be causing the problem.
Try a Different Power Outlet
- Sometimes, the issue could be related to the power source. Plug the printer into a different outlet to rule out a power issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
