My 6500A Plus stopped the 'scan to computer' function a few months ago after working perfectly before that. I've uninstalled/reinstalled a million times since and nothing changes. I can go through the process of scanning to the computer but I get the 'connection to computer is lost' error message each time as the scan is supoosed to start. The connection is not truly lost, though, because I can still print. It's just the scan function that's messed up. This is so frustrating! I have hundreds of photos to scan.

Alas..
It worked for a while but has now defaulted back to it's non-working/connection-losing state before.
I'm done with this printer and actually don't give a horses behind anymore. This thing's software is mega-crap and uber-trash.

I want to scan from my HP Office Jet 6500 A Plus. On the printer, I selected Scan, then Computer and a message shows "No computer detected." I am using Windows 8 on a wireless connection. I went into the control panel of my HP laptop and selected Scan then Activate Scan to computer. I get a message saying "error launching program. Device not specified."
What can I do to fix this?

I don't know about installing any extra programs - only the ones that were installed at the beginning. However, in the meantime, I have found a way around going to the "activate scanner" window. On my Windows 8, I clicked on All programs, then HP, then on the HP Office Jet 6800 symbol, then HP scan, hit the scan button and that turned the scanner on! Great resolution and able to save into a file, then attach to an email. It's a little lengthy process but it works.
