Laserjet Pro MFP M127fn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good Morning,

I own a Laserjet Pro MFP M127fn and as of yesterday I could no longer scan anything.

Please note that I am able to use the Copy functionality as well as the printing functionality of this device without any issue. It is only the scanning that has stopped working. It was working fine for the last 6 months while connected via USB on my Windows 10 x64 desktop and wirelessly on my Linux Mint x64 laptop.

I have attempted the below but the device is still not able to scan:

1. Windows 10 x64 (Desktop)

I have uninstalled the device software completely from my computer and rebooted. I have installed the latest version of the driver for Windows 10 x64 (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127/128 Series Full Software and Drivers version: 15.0.15309.1315), while scanner is being recognized and is saying its working properly in device manager. Attempting to scan documents using HP's Scan utility is still unresponsive. No error messages, it just doesnt scan. Attempting the scan with the feeder is giving me a message saying there are no documents in the feeder, when documents have been put in the feeder correctly. And attempting to scan from the glass is giving no error at all it just doesnt work and does nothing. I have also tried using another scanning software NAPS2 (https://www.naps2.com/), but same thing, nothing happens and no errors.

I have attempted to use the scanner via my network (Wired and Wireless) as well as directly connected via USB cable while making the appropriate changes to the software and configuring my firewall to allow access. However still no response.

I have download the latest Windows 7 x64 drivers (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127/128 Series Full Software and Drivers version: 15.0.15309.1315), uninstalled with reboot of previous Windows 10 drivers and installed the Windows 7 drivers and still experiance the same problem.

2. Windows 7 x64 (Desktop)

I have attempted to try a different machine running Windows 7. I have installed the latest version of the driver for Windows 7 x64 (HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127/128 Series Full Software and Drivers version: 15.0.15309.1315), this was the first time I use the device with this desktop, while scanner is being recognized and is saying it working properly in device manager. I also tried using the NAPS2 scanning software with the same effect. No error message and doesnt do anything.

I have attempted to use the scanner via my network (Wired and Wireless) as well as directly connected via USB cable while making the appropriate changes to the software and configuring my firewall to allow access. However still no response.

3. Linux Mint 17 x64 (Laptop)

I have attempted to scan with another machine running Linux Mint 17. I have installed the device using the "HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) protocol. Please note that both Printing and Scanning from this laptop was working with the device until yesterday. Only printing works now but as said before scanning with the device does not work. I have only tried scanning with the scanning software called "Simple Scan" which is a generic software for Linux. This software was working fine with the device until yesterday.

The device is being recognized by Linux but upon attempting to scan documents using Simple Scan is still unresponsive. No error messages, it just doesnt scan. Attempting the scan with both feeder and glass is giving no error at all it just doesnt work and does nothing.

On this laptop I am connecting wirelessly, but have also tried a wired network connection with the same result. As said before printing from Linux still works with this device.

What I dont understand, is why I can copy documents from the device sucessfully, but not scan from it to my laptop/desktop.

Kindly advise.

Regards,
A

@alock242,

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums.  After reading your post I understand that you need assistance with scanning. It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?

For now, try these steps:

This is specifically for windows based machines.

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.

  • Then download the latest printer driver from  http://hp.care/2t3Zua4  and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
  • This should fix the issue.
  • If required please update the printer firmware also by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2rHKwDD
  • and update the firmware from the same link mentioned above to download the HP printer drivers.
  • This will do the trick for you.

If the issue persists then try these steps:

  • Please perform all the relevant steps from this link: http://hp.care/2CU8qAt (HP Printers - Network Scanner Connection Error (Windows)
  • Especially steps 2,3,4,7,8, and 9.
  • Now check again.
  • Also try the step 1 from this link: http://hp.care/2CVWHkL (HP Printers - Printer Not Found During Network Driver Setup (Windows)
  • Also, disable UAC (user access control from WIndows control panel and check.
  • As workarounds, you could try scanning from HP scan and capture from this link: http://hp.care/2u2n6Je
  • Also, try HP smart app from this link: http://hp.care/2hmgdBr

Good luck and keep me posted.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂
