Enable scan to computer from OfficeJet Pro 9020 to Mac

I have a new OfficeJet Pro 9020, all set up and seemingly working OK as far as printing goes.

When I select "Scan" on the printer control panel and then select "Computer", I get a screen telling me the feature has to be set up first. But it doesn't tell me HOW to set it up, other than pointing me to the printer home page at 192.168.1.145. I've been to that page and ensured that "Webscan" is enabled/configured under "Scan to computer". But the same thing still happens when I try to scan directly from the printer to my Mac.

Scanning using the HP Smart app on my Mac works fine. But I want to also be able to use the "Scan to computer" feature directly from the printer.

I have searched the community as best I can, including the thread,

This has exactly the same problem but there is no resolution. Is there now a fix to allow a direct scan from the printer screen to a computer, NOT a Cloud?

Did you install the HP Utility and followed the instructions provided by @TEJ1602 in the thread you provided?

Try updating the Firmware and try setting up scan to email again from the EWS Page

HP utility doesn't work with this printer. I've loaded the most recent version on to my Mac. When it runs it simply will not recognise the 9020. So I can't use it to look at the printer settings, I have to use the HP Smart method.

I have already updated the firmware. Made no difference.

Ref the EWS, it is set to work, but I'm not trying to scan to email, I'm trying to scan directly to a computer from the printer screen. 

Any other ideas?

As this printer does not have a Full featured driver for macOS, you will not be able to Scan to computer using the printer control panel directly. However, as a work around, you may create a network folder on your mac and save the scanned documents.

Refer to this video How to set up a Shared Folder in Mac Operating System for help.

Once the folder is set up, follow the steps below:

• Open the EWS page of the printer. Type the IP address of the printer in the browser's address bar.
• On the Home tab, click Scan to Network Folder.
• Click +, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
• After you have entered the required information about the network folder, click Save and Test to make sure the link to the network folder is working correctly. The entry is added to the Network Folder Profiles table.

The solution works, but with one missing piece of information. 

Network addresses are new to me, and finding where one is and the exact format you have to use has taken time and not a little frustration.

For anyone following this, on a Mac (Mojave) the Network Address that the Embedded Web Server (EWS) requires is as follows;

\\111.111.1.1\Macbook\folder

Use your own IP address and exact folder structure. I created a new folder in the root directory to get it to work, then moved it as I got used to the structure/format. 

I got the IP address from the MAC OS Network Utility.
