Envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hi I have had the printer for a few months but used it for printing only (I'm not sure about the operating system being 32-bit).  Finally set up for scanning last night (basically just needed to click on 'enable' ) and was able to scan using the document feed with no problem at all.  On the screen I clicked 'scan > computer > scan to pc > pdf > start' and it went straight to my laptop and into a pdf.  Did that several times, scanning 14 or so pages at a time.

This morning, tried again, but the document feed won't pick up.  The screen now does not have the 'pdf' option, it goes straight from 'scan to pc' to 'start scan' and when i choose that, it says 'scanning' but does not take the documents from the feeder.  Then it says the scan is complete and tells me to look at my pc, but all that's there is a blank page - it's scanned from the flat bed.

I need to scan multiple page documents today and doing each page one at a time on the flat bed is really not an option I want to think about!

I've tried taking out the power cord and waiting 30 seconds but that didn't work.

I'm not tech-savvy so would be grateful for suggestions in a simple format if possible.

Many thanks

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system:

The following resource will help you :

https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

If you have already installed the FULL feature software, skip the above steps.

How to Scan to Computer

Once you have installed the software:

1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Hope that helps.

Hi Greenturtle,

thanks very much for your reply.

I wasn't sure whether I had downloaded the full feature software when i first set the printer up, so tried skipping that.  I followed everything from that point on and the printer is now taking paper from the top feed and giving me the full range of options for saving and emailing etc.  hurrah! If it stops again I'll go back and make sure the full feature software is on there.

Thanks a lot, you've saved me a lot of hours of stress and angst!
