I had the same problem. Thanks for the suggested work-arounds Dragon Fur, they got me by, but sheesh, hope there's a fix.
I tried the HP Scan Extended, and it didn't help much. I could get the scanner to do a scan (scanner made noise and light acted it was doing something), but the scanned material didn't display on the app screen, and it didn't allow me to save.
I'm trying to scan several printed pages into a PDF. Anyone else seeing the same thing?
I tried hpqkygrp, but get an error "The scanning software was launched with improper command-line arguments". I was hoping maybe this was the scan to PDF exe. Anyone else seeing that?
I tried hpiscnapp, and was able to scan to separate JPEG files.
