Hi all,
Hi @psike ,
this is a repost of the following problem / thread:
I had an OfficeJet HP6970 Pro and thought the 2 main features Duplex Scan & OCR Scan is available with a higher printer number and if the SPecification names it!
Now I have a blocked printer head in my HP6970 (after 3 years exactly!) and bought to 8022 printers (for myselve and my 80 year old father) . Unfortunately I bought the printers 2 months agowith a fast commissioning and wanted now to do some archive jobs.
After a call to HP Support with 3 people telling me the full software package allows OCR scan - but didn't could get in running - even with remote access to my PC - , I heard 'somewhere at HP by networking - that THIS PRINTER CANNOT DO OCR.
This is really annoying - it is a PRO printer version!!
Now I have to consider to keep the big HP6970 aside to do the OCR scan job???
I want to run the 'HP Scan' tool - accpeted meanwhile, that I have to turn the pages manually.
And to run scan with saving option 'PDF (searchable)' (is the german name).
SOLUTION approach:
Somebody told me, that the 9020 printer series has this capability included in the full driver software package.
- contrary to the 8020 series -
It should be possible to copy 1 file from an installation HPtemp or temp directory to the printer directory of the 8020 software. I couldn't manage to get it done now.
I tried as well if there is a transfer possible from the HP6970 - but it doesn't work either.
It seems, that HP has deleted the OCR feature in the printer specifications meanwhile. (see linked topic above)
My dealer (in germany) still has the technical features listed:

Is there meanwhile any solution?
I will still try to contact my dealer to exchange the printers....
Regards,
Jörg

Another user complaining aboutz the missing OCR and HP finally commented
"There are a lot of free OCR solutions" - what a mess.
HP should reimburse or exchange the printer , if that cannot fulfill the performance as indicated in the Specification.
That is a usual claim and HP has the chance to get the OCR running.

I had now contact to HP WhatsApp support (UK) and we tried again to install a full feature software package (incl. the HP Photo Creations software - which is required acc. the Support expert to have FULL FEATURE).
But same result in the 'HP Scan' App.
Tomorrow I will contact my dealer.

Jörg

Now it works!!
I do not know who is paying my time....but the 6th expert from HP and the 3rd guy from WhatsApp Support (UK) posted me a link to the "HP SCAN extended" software . It is an .MSI file and I am actually clarifying , if it is allowed to post the LINK here.
It changes available file formats in the 'HP SCAN' software , which seems to be normally supplied for the HP 8020 printer series.
Now OCR is available via scan file format selection as 'PDF searchable' and 'editable text file'.

Jörg
