How do I reinstate the OCR functionality in HP Scan? HP removed OCR as a 'fix/enhancement' on the HP download in March 2022. "Repackaged without Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Functionality".
It's an incredibly useful function in an otherwise great "HP Scan" app. The separate ReadIris app and HP Smart are not substitutes.
Just because I need to reinstall the software, shouldn't mean I lose paid-for functionality.
In brief, how can I find a full install package that is an earlier version than this one:
HP_Color_LJ_Pro_MFP_M477-PCL_6_v3_Full_Soln_22046.exe when HP removed OCR ?
There are some other posts providing the solution of using instead the HP Universal Scan Driver (which does include OCR). Unfortunately this doesn't work on the M477 range...as others posted here. It can never actually detect and connect to the device on the network.
All I want is to have the same functionality I paid for when I bought the product either with:
- the Full Package/soln before HP removed OCR (e.g. from a reliable archive/link), or
- a way of getting the Universal Scan s/w to work with a networked m477fdw.
It doesn't seem an unreasonable ask of HP. Maybe someone in the community has a solution?
Mine's out of warranty so HP won't help directly. Maybe someone with an active warranty can ask HP directly for a download link..?
Thanks
