I can't give you an answer for that as my laptop is a Toshiba and the printer is Officejet 6500 709q.

Hi kdz,

My Computer is a Compaq so although owned by HP (I understand) not strictly an HP.

I received identical messages/errors that you did.

I read through that list of instructions but also checked out (didn't action any at first) the other steps too.

I found that there were references (registry) and directories/files that should not be there after deinstallation (not surprising as like you it failed in last steps).

What I did was to check the steps that JohnGPB (he produced the list of steps) detailed. In each step I ensured that what I was removing/altering was not also tied to other functionality on my computer, but only to the actual printer/scan I was trying to get rid of. You have to be careful that you dont remove anything not directly tied to the print/scan function. I beleive JohnGPB didnt want people removing a swag of stuff that was supposed to be there as HP machines integrate much of this stuff.

1. Back up the registry.

2. Write down everything you do so you remember. If need be (depending on what your system has) zip up files/folders you delete/alter so you can place them back in the exact location if all goes wrong. MAKE SURE you note exactly where they come from.

3. As you go though all steps make the changes as if non-HP system (BUT look carefully at what you alter/delete - what other stuff do you have on your system and could changes affect other functions).

4. Make sure you run step 11 (from JohnGPB's list), the Windows cleanup utility and make sure any HP print/scan setup functions (for your device) are removed. Especially important is to ensure the bdq_scan (think mine was called bpq_scan) is removed.

5. After the changes MAKE SURE you reboot your system. Look out for errors on startup etc.

6. Now re-install the HP software from scratch.

The point here is you are removing anything that impedes a FRESH install of the HP software - fresh directory/file placement and fresh entries in the registry.

In all cases, LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP.

Hope that helps.

Hi there,

Forgive me for not answering sooner (Having some annoying things running through my head lately -_-")

I'll try to explain a bit more about step 11.

Before that, @kdz, that error you recieved about the uninstaller crushing is perfectly fine, not all the files are totally accessible/Exist that's why you are recieving this error.

If i haven't stated using a differnet installation file it means that you can use which ever one that you want ^_-

About step 11....

I don't need to tell you that there are plenty of other software that you can use in order to remove the hidden things on your computer..

But this one looks pretty simple and easy to understand, so i picked it.

The following item's are HP's Software names that you can find by using the Windows Cleanup Utility.(At least the one's that you can afford to remove)

The driver 14 is pretty complex and is full of components, you might as well ask me if its necessery to remove everything, Thankfully, thats a no, the most importent thing is the bdp_scan (Sorry for the mistake before, TullyRiver ^_^") That thing is jamming the HP Digital Imaging Monitor.

And you might as well ask me what is the HP Digital Imaging Monitor..

To keep it simple, its a tiny piece of software that allows the computer to access the printer scanner (Fax to PC functions as well) by using the Module 26 which is being installed with the printer as well, (It mostly helps identify the device)

That very specific annoying messege that you get whenever you are trying to scan is being caused because the Module is failing to identify the device's scanner and therefor unable to reach the HP Digital Imaging monitor due to the bdp_scan not being removed....

There are a few times when the problem is being caused by something else (Such as insufficient priviliges) that might be the cause of it, but as you can tell it's pretty rare.

And about trying to remove those components on an HP computer...

Any HP computer is pretty much running windows, removing those files i mentioned before wouldn't cause any stability issues but would definitly cause your other HP software to stop functioning which will probably lead to the end of your warranty on that specific machine, because they are not going to support your machine if you messed up the installed components of the HP built-in software. (Or they will try to intiate a full recovery to your system, which you would probably try to avoid)

Anyway, i hope this enilightened you in any way,

Take care~

Hello,

I have got the same problem, only than with a Officejet Pro X476dw MFP. The scan button is disappeared and can not scan otherwise. If I try scan doctor it works, but how do I get the scan button back?

Thnx, Ron

You are a miracle worker....this worked!  If this hadn't, I was out t buy a new one. Thank you.  I only deleted the one file you mentioned...I didn't want to risk any other issues!

Hi there ronvdsande,

To be honest since your Product belongs to the enterprise section, i find it pretty hard to answer you, since the product is using a different software, the steps i mentioned won't suit your product, but you might give it a try.

I would suggest trying to contact your local HP support, first and far most because it is an Enterprise product and you don't want to lose days of work trying to fix it...

Best of luck.

Well...I thought it was working.  When I tried to scan a document, it scanned fine but when I selected "Finish" to save the file, I got this message...I did try rebooting the machine but still got the same error.

I had the same issue as you.  The solution is that the HP program is running in the background in the notification area.  If you click on the ^ down by the time you will see the HP program running.  If you right click on it and then select exit or close or whatever the option is to stop it.  Then when you run the HP Solution Center then the scanning worked.  The problem is that this program always runs when you start windows.

If you do these steps:

1) Win Key - r

2) Enter: shell:common startup

3) Then you can deleted the HP program that runs.

This has solved my problems on two machines, but I had to go through all those other steps to remove the HP software off the machine.

Some of the steps were confusing to me.  One of the steps said to download and un-archive or un-zip.  But the program was an exe file.  I use 7-zip to extract it.  Then I searched for cmd and right click on it and ran as administrator. Then you had cd to where you saved the file and run the uninstall-L4.bat.

Hope this helps for you

Thank you, I removed the HP program from my common startup as you directed and rebooted my machine, but this did not fix my error.  I can scan, but I get the error during the finishing step.  What should I do now? I had already completed the steps from JohnGBP in the earlier post that involved 13 steps....this was successful in gettting te scanner to work...now I just neeed to be able to save them as files.
