Hello all

 

I just bought my new laptop and try to set up "Scan to Network Folder" from the Officejet Pro 8620 to my Dropbox.

 

This worked fine with my old laptop but not with the new one.

 

NetworkPath: \\LAPTOP-MyName\Dropbox

UserName: MyName@outlook.com

Password: The Password I use for opening my Computer

 

Any ideas why this does not work?

I do not use DropBox and I cannot comment on the correct credentials necessary to access the data for this purpose.

In general, yes - the credentials necessary to access the storage / folder / location are those used to access the content.

 

The following might be helpful.

 

Use the IP address as opposed to "server name".

 

About the Example...

The lower half of the example image is related to the "Dragon Data" remote device mapping (a NAS in this instance)

 

What is relevant:

Having made the comment "in general, the credentials necessary...", it occurs to me that the credentials and the Shared Folder access must reflect the way the data is accessed within your network.

 

If Dropbox folders and content is located in the hierarchy of your Windows user account, then the Scan-to-Network might best include the user / password for your Windows account to reach that Folder located in your account.

 

The challenge, if there is one, is to "Share" the folder location within Drop box so it allows the printer Read / Write access from within your network, to your computer, and into that Cloud storage folder location.  Frankly, I am a bit concerned by "shared" open folders in Cloud Storage.   I am more conservative than most and I am overly cautious at time.

 

I suggest if you continue to have problems that you create a Test folder in your Windows account that is not located in Cloud Storage.  For example, create a folder named "Network Scans", set it to shared, open the read/write access.

 

Next, create a Scan-to-Network profile to the folder and test it.  Remember to use the IP address and not the name of your computer.

 

Go back to using the DropBox setup, shifting the userid / password set to Windows, if necessary.

thank you for your quick feedback on my question. Good idea to try with a local Server. Unfortunately the error persists. The error message I get (for this folder as well as the local on) is: "Connection to Printer not possible. Plesase check configuration and try again."

 

Strange enough: I can print w/o any problems so the connection should be fine....

Where and exactly When are you seeing the error?

In EWS when you are trying to create the profile or when you test?

Error:

"Connection to Printer not possible. Please check configuration and try again."

 

If you have not done so, switch on Network and Printer discovery...

 

Control Panel > icon view > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings

Enable Network discovery and enable File and printer sharing

(Likely already done)

Click to "Save Changes"

When testing a local folder in your Windows folder, that folder must be Shared .

I know - beating on this one - not sure where to look at the moment...

You could try adjusting the Advanced Sharing

 

Note: I am not convinced the error even indicates this type of issue.  I am thinking the printer cannot "see" your account on the computer and is being stopped either right at the system level (IP address) or at the point where the printer is trying to access your account.  Regardless, it takes only a minute to take a look at this...

 

Open File Explorer

Navigate to your account

Right-Click on the Tests_Folder > Properties

Tab Sharing 

 

Expect to see a Share Path similar to

\\DRAGONWING\Users\Dragon\Tests_Folder 

 

Replace DragonWing  with the name of your computer

Replace Dragon with the name of your account

Notice that in this case, the local machine is perfectly happy to use its computer name.  Smiling.

 

Still in Properties...

Advanced Sharing

Check Share this folder

Click box Permissions

Add Permission "Change"

Click Apply to save the update

Click OK to exit the menu

The Printer should likely be controlled with a manual / static IP address.

The printer itself can be assigned an IP address (remember EWS)

You can also make sure the router on your network agrees and is using the IP address for the printer and another one for the computer (and so on)...

And, the most obvious (but occasionally missed):  All this stuff must be on the same subnet. 

 

Meh.  Will have to think on it...

Hello Dragon-Fur,

 

I am really impressed by your willingness to help.

 

Actually, the error occurs when I press the "Save and Test" button on EWS. Then after 10 seconds the error message appears.

 

Network and Printer discovery: I checked and the settings were already as described by you.

 

I also checked the settings for the local folder. The normal ones were already as stated by you. I followes the proposed settings in the "advanced settings" and tried again but: Did not work.

 

However: I remember that with my old laptop I spent about one hour with someone from the HP hotline and I think in the end the solution had to do with some setting in my FritzBox (a simple Flag or something!?). Would you have any idea?

You are welcome - too bad nothing I am offering is helping to actually fix the problem.  🙄

 

 

A very long time ago, I had a cat named Fritz.  Loved that cat.  Great cat.

 

No, sorry, I don't know what changes would be needed in the FritzBox (router?).

 

It might be useful, though, to check the router logs - all kinds of information can land in the logs and some of it can be very useful.

 

It is possible your overly helpful security software is blocking the access in some way.

The delay almost sounds like the connection is trying but being turned away.

 

Will think on it and get back to you if I think of what else I am missing.

yes, FritzBox is a router (the most popular one used in Germany).

 

I checked the logs but nothing indicating to the network problem.

 

I will call the hotline next week as I have one day off and the time to work on this problem. Should I get a solution to my problem, I will sure let you know.

Try setting the printer connection type to TCP/IP on the computer...

 

 

Method - Create TCP IP port

 

Find printer's IP /  IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on Printer Control Panel


Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

 Right-Click on the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

 Select Tab Ports  > Add Port

 Select Standard TCP/IP Port > New Port and follow the wizard.
 Use / Enter IP address for the printer.
