There is a vertical line on scanned documents using the ADF. No line if I use the flatbed. I have cleaned the glass I understand the ADF uses and still have the problem

Thank you for your help. I think I have cleaned all the visible glass surfaces on the lid and on the main printer part. I only get the vertical lines when I use the ADF, not when I use the glass scanner manually. Any suggestions?

Even nearly invisible scratches can distort the scanner and cause lines. the best way to check for these minor defects or debris is to use a very bright flashlight and look at the glass from a low angle.

Hi @CalgaryYukon ,
take a look at this solution here: Printer Maintance
A magnifying glass and a flashlight are very helpful.
Kind Regards

Got the flashlight out and had a close look. Still have the line. The line issue started when I used the ADF while I had a document on the glass. The ADF fed the new document over the document on the glass. Since then, the line remains. Will get a magnifying glass as it is a lower cost option than a new printer. My 7740 has been a reliable beast for many years and is costly to replace. Plus I have a bunch of ink for it, about $300. Will shop for a printer that uses the same ink.

OK,
but please scan a blank A4 sheet via the ADF first, as described in the link above, and then upload it here.
