Scanner problems with Mac Sonoma 14.0

I have the same issue with HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 after the Sonoma update - "Scanner reported and error" "An Error Occured while communication with the Scanner". as far as i know all drivers and firmware etc are up to date and everything was removed and reinstalled as a last gasp effort to fix

Hello all,

I upgraded to Sonoma 14.1. The HP 6970  printer functions perfectly. The scanner is not detected by the MacBook Air. Attempted a "new driver" installation. No success,  this is very anoying. HP says it is Apple and When I talked to Apple they mention it is an HP problem. Should anyone from HP read this thread, please correct the issue. Computers are supposed to make our lives easier, at a price folks !

I Have a HP black and white laser printer (all in one) and it also stopped scanning due to Mac OS Sonoma upgrade; On HP site there are no drivers for Apple MAC OS so this makes me wonder... since all other models are failing to scan since the upgrade we should be pounding Apple's website as well. This will make me probably switch printers to make sure my printer brand supports fully (and employs software developers) to keep up with printer drivers for Apple products. I have been a die-hard HP product advocate for over 20 years. Time to go.

Same problem. HP 6970 will not scan with Sonoma 14.1. Prints perfectly. Who is going to fix it?

After installing a new update Sonoma 14.1.1 and HP smart for desktop,
the HP Easy scan still does not work. 
There are 2 other options for scanning, but they are much complicated.
One can use HP Smart, but they need 10* more memory.
You can also scan without an HP program.Via apple menu: system settings - printers and scanners -
next open scanner -You can then enter various options in the photo loader menu.
Hopefully this limited explanation can be useful to someone
and there will be an update for the HP easy scan.

Same problem.  I was finally able to scan from the HP Smart app, but HP Easy Scan still fails.

Was it Sonoma macOS 14 or the recent HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 firmware update that broke scanning?

In my case (HP Pagewide Pro 477DW) it seems to have been the September Firmware Update that broke the functionality. But I could locate an October Firmware Update that fixed it -- almost hidden on the website (please see my earlier post). Maybe you are able to find an update for your machine as well.

Appreciate the feedback - strangely, when I go to the HP Support site it says there is a firmware update for my all-in-one printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 6978) but after I download the update and double-click to open it, I get a message saying "this download does not have an update for your printer."  Very odd....I am frustrated with the lack of a solution.  I am able to scan using Image Capture but I cannot scan through the normal process of opening the scanner via the "Printers & Scanners" function within Settings on my iMac.  Thanks again.....
