Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Yes, this worked!

You can scan without an HP program,
Via apple menu: system settings - printers and scanners -
Next click on the MFD you wish to use. (In my case HP Officejet Pro 8610)
Now click the Open Scanner... button.
You can now enter various options in the photo loader menu.
Hopefully this limited explanation can be useful to someone
and there will be an update for the HP easy scan.

Thanks to Freddy_teughels.
I have copied his entry and modified it to (hopefully) make it a bit more understandable.

Yes DevNulll, the HP Smart app seems to be the only workaround for macOS 14 Sonoma (and 14.1) scanning with an HP.

The workaround unfortunately does not function with the HP 6970.

FYI all,

I downloaded again HP Easy start along with its driver for Mac. No joy the scanner still does not respond. If anyone from HP is reading this forum, rest assured that this problem is getting to be quite annoying. I am seriously thinking of emptying the remaining printer cartridges and sending the unit to the recycliing depot. Enterprises the size of HP  should have figured out this issue by now and corrected it. To say the least this is very dissapointing.

Pardon this complaint.

HP Easy Scan has disappeared from the Mac app store and appears to be no longer supported.  That leaves the only HP solution to be HP Smart.  The user interface for scanning in HP Smart is simply a dreadful user experience.

Marc, my feelings too. I just bought new inkt (>€ 200,) If it not solved in the comming months, I also will leave HP and buy an other printer, not from HP then.

After installing HP Easy Scan version 2.0.0 via the HP website, this program will work again.

My printer is an HP Officejet Pro 6960.
Finally in order!

You have to give me your trick Freddy! Yesterday, I downloaded Easy Scan 2.0 installed it on the Macbook Air, restarted (never have to do his operation with a Mac), restarted the Office Pro 6978. The result is not really better. I do not get Apple communication error message. The Easy Scan app will simply fall into an endless loop by showing a horizontal blue barber poll rolling endlessly. In fairness to the new update, I also do not get the communication error message while using the Apple scan app, the endless loop is shown as the Apple spinning daisy. I did uninstall and re-installed the HP 6978 from the settings menu within the Mac.

Where did you find HP Easy Scan 2.0.0?  I cannot find it on the Mac App Store on HP's website.  Perhaps it's not available for Apple Silicon or in the US?

Here is the link. Indicate what is your printer model. Please let us know how it works out please.
