I need to scan supermarket receipts which are about 3 inches wide and could be a few feet long. I could of course scan them in 11 inch lengths on the glass and then join them but that is far too time consuming to be useful.
I was hoping to use the document feeder of my M181fw to scan them in one go. I set the feeder to the minimum width and place the receipt on it and hit the scan button. It looks like it is working, pulling the receipt all the way through without issue and making all the usual sounds like when scanning A4 documents, just taking longer because of the extra length.
However despite that the scan is failing. I randomly get one of two outcomes.
1. It replies with 'General Failure' and produces no results
2. It produces just one page with the last few inches of the receipt.
I am using the HP Scan and Capture app.
I have tried both photo and document scan. I set it to 'Entire scan area' and 'use document feeder if loaded'
What am I doing wrong and how can I correct it?

Hi,
Please use the flatbed glass for such and scan it as multiple parts.
The ADF is intended for Plain Paper only, and support up to 35.56 cm long paper, not any longer paper, you may find its specs below:
