Features (facet) | Automatic document feeder; Front USB flash drive port; Optional high-capacity trays; Scan to email; Scan to PDF; Two-sided printing; Two-sided scanning; Print from mobile device |

The following might be relevant to the HP Scan software as it relates to your printer model.
Ignore if not useful.
In general, HP Scan (part of the full driver) supports scanning from the ADF, a "Detect content" option (for scan area size), and a Page Sides option.
For those printers that support automatic 2-sided scan, the option in Page Sides might be offer"2-sided Book" or similar.
OR
For those printers that do not support the automatic 2-sided scan feature, Page Sides might offer "2-sided (manual" as the scan option.
Next,
Open the "More" menu
Select / open sub-menu Destination > then "File Type"
UNCHECK / Clear the box that would force each page into a separate file
Back on the main menu --
After the settings are as you want them,
If the option is available,
If you wish to do so --
Use "Create New Scan Shortcut" to save the job setup as a Custom Shortcut that you can select and use later.

- Wording and Options vary depending on the HP Scan software type and version.
